Connecticut, Liberty Standouts Earn #BIGEASTfh Honors
NEW YORK – On the strength of two road wins, including a victory at No. 11 Old Dominion, Connecticut has taken two of the three BIG EAST weekly awards. Cecile Pieper has been named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week and goalkeeper Cheyenne Sprecher earned Freshman of the Week honors. Liberty goalkeeper Allison Schaefer was tabbed Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Flames to a 2-0 weekend.
BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Cecile Pieper, Connecticut, R-Sr., Back (Mannheim, Germany)
Pieper had won Defensive Player of the Week honors for the past two weeks, but she turned on the offense in triumphs at Old Dominion and William & Mary. Pieper scored twice in a 4-2 victory at ODU and picked up a goal and an assist in a 6-1 win at William & Mary. For the season, Pieper leads the Huskies with 10 goals and 26 points.
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Allison Schaefer, Liberty, Jr., GK (Millersville, Pa.)
Schaefer led Liberty to a pair of road wins, defeating Villanova 4-0 and Lafayette 3-1. In the victory over Villanova, the junior goalkeeper recorded a three-save shutout. At Lafayette, Schaefer made seven saves and kept the Leopards off the scoreboard until a goal on a penalty corner at the end of the game. Schaefer owns a 6-2 record with a 1.46 goals against average.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Cheyenne Sprecher, Connecticut, RS-Fr., GK (Palmyra, Pa.)
Sprecher takes Freshman of the Week honors for a second consecutive week. In victories at Old Dominion and William & Mary, Sprecher made 12 total saves. She had four saves in a 4-2 win at ODU and a career-high eight saves in a 6-1 victory at William & Mary. For the year, Sprecher holds a 1.02 goals against average and a .775 save percentage.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Agueda Moroni, Liberty, Sr., F/M (Cordoba, Argentina)
Moroni scored four goals and added two assists for a 10-point week to help Liberty win at Villanova (4-0) and at Lafayette (3-1). She picked up a goal and two assists at Villanova and notched all three of the Flames’ goals at Lafayette. Moroni leads her team with 14 goals and six assists.
Allyson Parker, Providence, Jr., M (Orange, Mass.)
Parker nailed the game-winning tally on a penalty corner in the Friars’ 3-2 double-overtime victory at Temple. The goal was her team-leading sixth of the season. Parker has posted at least one point in six of the 10 Friar matches this year.
Kathryn Edgar, Temple, Jr., M (Craigavon, N. Ireland)
Edgar recorded two goals and an assist in a 1-1 week. The junior converted on a penalty stroke for the winning goal with time expired in a 2-1 win against Towson. She notched a goal and an assist in a 3-2 double-overtime loss to Providence.
