BIG EAST Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Euan Makepeace, Butler, R-Jr., Distance (Loughborough, United Kingdom)
Redshirt junior Euan Makepeace opened calendar year 2019 with a win, taking the top spot in the 3,000-meter run at the Jim Green Invitational in Lexington, Ky. Makepeace finished in 8:08.50, a time which tops the BIG EAST charts and is third-best in the NCAA. He finished six seconds ahead of the second place finisher.
 
BIG EAST Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Thomas Conboy, Villanova, Jr., Pole Vault (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.)
Villanova junior pole vaulter Thomas Conboy set an indoor personal best with a height of 4.70 meters in the Wesley A. Brown Invitational in Annapolis, Md. Conboy made it over the bar at 4.70 meters on his first attempt as he moved into sole possession of seventh place on the Wildcats all-time indoor performance list in the pole vault. He current marks puts him atop the BIG EAST standings.
 
BIG EAST Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Nicole Hutchinson, Villanova, Sr., Distance (West Vancouver, British Columbia)
Villanova senior Nicole Hutchinson posted the third-fastest mile time of her career at the Westley A. Brown Invitational hosted by Navy in Annapolis, Md.  In her first meet of the season, she finished first out of 15 runners, crossing the tape at 4:38.18. Hutchinson’s time leads the BIG EAST and is ranked second in the NCAA.
 
BIG EAST Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Ja’Tae Joyner, St. John’s, Freshman, Jumps (Bowie, Md.)
St. John’s rookie Ja’Tae Joyner made the podium twice at the TCNJ Lions Indoor Invitational, hosted by the Armory in New York City. Joyner placed first in the triple jump with a distance of 11.79 meters, which tops the BIG EAST list so far this season. The freshman also placed third in the long jump with a mark of 5.67 meters. Her long jump distance ranks second in the BIG EAST behind Breanne Marchan of Marquette.
 
Notable Performances
  • Georgetown fifth year runner Joseph White won the men’s 1,000-meter race at the Penn State Nittany Lion Challenge. White’s time of 2:21.99 is the second best run across NCAA Division I schools this year. The 1,000-meter race is not part of the BIG EAST or NCAA Championships. Hoya teammate Paige Hofstad finished second in the 3,000-meter race with a time of 9:39.54. The mark ranks second in the BIG EAST, 14th nationally.
  • St. John’s sophomore Leah Anderson won the 400-meter race at the TCNJ Lions Indoor Invite with a time of 56.25, topping the BIG EAST leaderboard and ranking 38th nationally.
