DePaul and Butler nailed down Saturday victories as the BIG EAST competitive balance continued.

Butler defeated St. John’s 80-71 in front of a sellout crowd at Hinkle Fieldhouse.  DePaul picked up a road win 97-93 at Seton Hall.  After 28 of 90 BIG EAST contests, 14 have been decided by six points or less.

Kamar Baldwin scored 30 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Bulldogs (12-7, 3-3).  Jordan Tucker came off the bench to add 24 points.  St. John’s got 20 points each from Shamorie Ponds and Mustapha Heron.  The Johnnies (15-4, 3-4) struggled with their 3-point shooting, making only 7-of-24.

DePaul earned a season sweep of Seton Hall in its win at Prudential Center.  The Blue Demons got 20-point games from three players. Max Strus and Femi Olujobi, scored 22 points apiece.  Olujobi also had 11 rebounds.  Paul Reed registered his third straight double-double with 21 points and 14 rebounds.  Quincy McKnight led the Pirates with 25 points and Myles Powell added 24 points.

The lone game on the Sunday league schedule has Providence visiting Marquette at noon ET on CBS Sports Network.  Marquette (15-3, 4-1) is 12-0 at the new Fiserv Forum.  Markus Howard, who played only three minutes in Tuesday’s win at Georgetown due to back spasms, leads the BIG EAST in scoring with a 24.4 average.  Providence (11-6, 1-3) picked up its first BIG EAST win Tuesday, knocking off Seton Hall.  The Friars’ Alpha Diallo ranks seventh in the league in scoring (17.2), first in rebounding (8.7) and fourth in steals (1.7).
