Marquette at Xavier Set for Saturday on FS1

Creighton used a balanced scoring attack with four players reaching double figures in a 75-61 victory against Butler before 18,089 fans at the CHI Health Center.  The game was Creighton’s annual Pink Out which raises money locally in the Coaches vs. Cancer effort.

The win moved the Bluejays from a tie for eighth place to a tie for the third in the league standings.  Creighton is 12-8 overall and 3-4 in the BIG EAST.

Ty-Shon Alexander led four Bluejays in double figures with 19 points.  Martin Krampelj added 16 points and a game-high eight rebounds.  Creighton outshot Butler from the field 50 percent to 39.7 percent and won the rebounding battle 40-29.  Kamar Baldwin scored a game-high 23 points, but the Bulldogs (12-9, 3-5) could not place any other player in double figures.

With Friday’s result, home teams hold only a 19-15 edge in conference play with 16 of the 34 conference games decided by six points or less.

Today is the only Saturday this season that has only one game on the schedule.  Xavier hosts No. 12 Marquette at 2 p.m. ET on FS1.  The Golden Eagles, 17-3 overall, bring a six-game winning streak to the Cintas Center and a 6-1 BIG EAST record.  The Musketeers are 11-9 overall and 3-4 in league play.  Marquette beat Xavier in the first meeting this season, a 70-52 decision on Jan. 6 in Milwaukee.  Xavier won both meetings last year.

Sunday’s schedule is busier with three games.  FOX will telecast a doubleheader with St. John’s hosting Georgetown at Madison Square Garden at noon ET followed by Seton Hall at No. 18 Villanova at 2 p.m.  DePaul plays at Providence at noon on FS1.
