NEW YORK – Marquette’s Daniel Pederson and Caitlin McGauley have been named BIG EAST Male and Female Athletes of the Week in Cross Country based on their performances at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational    
 
BIG EAST Male Athlete of the Week
Daniel Pederson, Marquette, Sr. – Pederson finished first individually in the men's maroon collegiate race at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational on Saturday. He won the 8k race with a time of 24:56.39, the second best 8k time of his career. His performance helped MU finish third overall as a team in the 15-team meet. The win for Pederson was his second first-place finish ever at MU and first since Sept. 9, 2017 when he won the Vic Godfrey Open.

BIG EAST Female Athlete of the Week
Caitlin McGauley, Marquette, Sr. – McGauley finished 25th at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational with a time of 18:26.25 for the 5K race and helped Marquette take fifth place in the team standings.  The top five MU runners all finished within 10 seconds of each other.  It was the third straight race that she was first among the Golden Eagles.  The senior earned the first BIG EAST honor in her career. 
 
BIG EAST Notes
Men’s News – Euan Makepeace of Butler led the Bulldogs to a fourth-place team finish out of 18 teams at the Panorama Invite. Makepeace took eighth individually, trekking the 8K course in 24:18.0. The senior’s pace helped lead all five Bulldog scorers to place in the top-50 out of 161 athletes…DePaul also competed in the Loyola Lakefront Invitational.  Charlie McIntyre was the top Blue Demon performer, taking 25th with a time of 25:45....Senior Andrew Marston of Villanova finished 22nd of 143 runners at the Bill Dellinger Invitational in Oregon.  Marston's time in the 8K race was 23:59.6.  In a competitive field, the Wildcats finished eighth.
 
Women’s News – At the Loyola Lakefront Invitational, senior Courtney Pickering was the top DePaul finisher with a time of 18:58 for 5K.
 
BIG EAST Presence In the USTFCCCA Polls
In the USTFCCCA national polls of Oct. 1, the women’s poll has Villanova and Georgetown receiving votes.  In the men’s poll, Villanova is tied for No. 29.
