NEW YORK – Two games highlight the Week 4 BIG EAST men’s soccer schedule on the BIG EAST Digital Network Presented by SoFi. Creighton and Xavier kick off at 7 p.m. on Friday on BEDN, while Saturday night features Villanova at No. 10 St. John’s. The Red storm leads the conference standings at 3-0-0.

Win No. 100 For Wildcat Head Coach Tom Carlin
With a 1-0 win over No. 17 James Madison on Tuesday night, Villanova head coach Tom Carlin marked his 100th victory as the head coach of the Wildcats. In Carlin’s 12-year head coaching position at Villanova, he has amassed a 100-94-22 record. Overall, his career coaching record is 192-111-30. The Wildcats scored in the 44th minute for the eventual victory on a goal by Evan Vare. Keeper Carson Williams made five saves in the win.

BIG EAST teams went 7-0-0 on Tuesday in non-conference play as Butler, Georgetown, Marquette, Providence, St. John’s, Seton Hall and Villanova were all successful. Butler and Providence pulled out golden goal victories in overtime. The Bulldogs defeated Akron, 1-0, while the Friars defeated past and future BIG EAST rival Connecticut, 2-1. The BIG EAST is 3-0 against Akron this year and 3-0 over Temple.
 
Georgetown defeated Lehigh, 2-0; Marquette outscored Green Bay 6-1, St. John’s defeated Temple, 1-0, Seton Hall beat out Fordham, 3-1 and Villanova upset No. 17 James Madison 1-0.
 
The BIG EAST is 49-21-3 (.692) against non-conference opponents this season. In overtime games against non-league opponents, the BIG EAST is 6-4-2 (.583).
 
Quick Kicks
St. John’s is alone on top of the men’s soccer league leaderboard as the Red Storm delivered a 4-0 shutout victory at Marquette last week.  With the win, the Red Storm improved to 3-0-0 in BIG EAST play for the first time since 2004. Georgetown and DePaul played to a scoreless draw to start the afternoon in Chicago. Georgetown is second in the standings with seven points. Seton Hall gave Creighton its first loss of the season, 1-0, in South Orange. The Pirates and Bluejays are tied for third place with six points. Villanova defeated Xavier 1-0 for the Wildcats’ first BIG EAST win of the season. Butler also earned its first league win with a 3-1 road win at Providence.

Seton Hall at No. 12 Georgetown (3 p.m., Friday)
Seton Hall (5-4-0, 1-2-0 BIG EAST) are the hottest team in the league as far as win streak goes. The Pirates have won their last four straight games, dating back to a1-0 loss at Providence on Sept. 20. The Pirates earned their first BIG EAST win, 1-0, over Creighton last week. No. 12 Georgetown (8-1-1, 2-0-1 BE) ranks second in the league standings with seven points. The Hoyas are 2-0-1 since losing to No.17 Louisville on Sept. 24. Georgetown is 19-16-13 all-time against Seton Hall. Last year, the Hoyas defeated the Pirates 4-0 in New Jersey. In 2017, Georgetown won 3-0.
 
RV Creighton at Xavier (7 p.m., Friday - BEDN)
Neither Creighton or Xavier played a midweek game this week, as both the Bluejays and Musketeers should go into Friday’s match well rested. Creighton (6-3-1, 2-1-0 BE) lost its first BIG EAST game of the season, 1-0, at Seton Hall last week, while Xavier (4-5-1, 0-3-0 BE) is still on the hunt for its first point in the conference standings. Xavier has been in a rut since losing Felix Boe-Tangen to injury on Sept. 14. During the stretch, XU has just defeated IUPUI 1-0 (Sept. 24). Creighton is 4-1-0  since Sept. 16. Creighton leads the all-time series 5-2-1. The Musketeers have lost three straight in the series.  Last year, Creighton won 3-1.
 
Villanova at No. 10 St. John’s (7 p.m., Saturday - BEDN)
No. 10 St. John’s (10-1-0, 3-0-0 BE) has won 10 of its first 11 games for the first time in more than two decades, last doing so during the national championship season of 1996. The Red Storm’s only loss this season was on Sept. 23 against Maryland. In BIG EAST play, the Red Storm has outscored opponents 8-1. Villanova (7-3-1, 1-1-1 BE) earned its first BIG EAST win last Friday, 1-0, at home against Xavier. The Wildcats are 6-0-0 at home this season. VU is coming off a 1-0 win over No. 17 James Madison on Tuesday, while St. John’s defeated Temple, 1-0. St. John’s and Villanova rank third and fifth, respectively, in the nation in team goals against average through games played on Thursday.  Villanova (0.26) has allowed just three goals in 11 games while St. John’s (0.44) has allowed five opposing goals, one of which came on a penalty kick.  Villanova and St. John’s have met 38 times previously. St. John’s is 23-9-6 all-time against Villanova. In 2018, the two teams played to a 1-1 tie. St. John’s has only won once since 2013.
 
Marquette at Providence (7 p.m., Saturday) 
Marquette (5-5-1, 1-2-0 BE) and Providence (7-4-0, 1-2-0 BE) are tied for fifth in the league standings with three points. The Friars are coming into Saturday’s game  with a 2-1 overtime win over Connecticut. Marquette defeated Green Bay 5-1. Marquette’s lone conference win came over Xavier, 2-1, on Sept. 27. Providence’s win was over Seton Hall, 1-0 (Sept. 20). The Friars lead the all-time series 7-4-2. In 2018, Providence defeated Marquette 1-0.
 
DePaul at Butler (7 p.m., Saturday)
Butler has won their last two games, 3-1, over Providence and 1-0 in overtime over Akron since facing three ranked teams in three straight play dates to close out December. The game was won in the 110th minute for the Bulldogs (6-4 BE, 1-2-0 BE). DePaul (4-5-2, 0-1-2 BE) is on the hunt for its first BIG EAST win. However, the Blue Demons have two points in the standings after playing both Villanova and then-No. 10 Georgetown to scoreless ties. In the match against the Hoyas, goalie Drew Nuelle made eight saves.  Butler owns the advantage in the series 5-2-2. Last season, the Bulldogs won 3-1.
