Creighton draws No. 10 Georgetown while Butler, Marquette, Villanova and Xavier pick up Week 5 wins.
NEW YORK – BIG EAST women’s soccer conference play crossed the halfway point on Sunday as all 10 teams played their fifth league match. No. 10 Georgetown remained alone atop the standings despite Creighton pulling off its second draw at Shaw Field in the last three seasons. The four-way tie for second place entering Sunday was trimmed to two as Butler and Villanova won their home matches, while Xavier creeped up to fourth with a win over visiting Providence, which now sits in a three-way tie for fifth with DePaul and Marquette. All 10 teams will enjoy a midweek bye before beginning the homestretch of league play this weekend.
Creighton 2, #10 Georgetown 2 (2OT)
For the second time in three seasons, Creighton delivered a shocking result in the nation's capital, posting a 2-2 draw at No. 10 Georgetown. Creighton also battled the Hoyas to a draw at Shaw Field in 2017, the only BIG EAST team to earn a regular-season result at the Hoyas' home pitch during the last three years. The Bluejays scored two in the first with strikes by Ashleigh Cearlock and Ansley Atikinson as Creighton took a 2-0 lead into the break. It was all Hoyas in the second period as GU outshot CU 13-2 and Julia Leas and Sofie Fox scored to even the score at 2-2. Georgetown had all three of the shots in overtime but couldn’t break through as the teams settled for a point apiece. Keelan Terrell had seven saves for Creighton while Anna Leat had five stops for the Hoyas. The draw stretched first-place GU’s unbeaten streak to a league-high nine matches.
