BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Katie Soderstrom, Butler, So., M/F
Soderstrom showed some late-game heroics in a 2-0 week for the Bulldogs which won at Creighton and against St. John’s last week. The sophomore scored the golden goal in the 93
rd minute against the Bluejays to break the scoreless draw, while notching the game-winning goal against the Red Storm in the 78
th minute. Butler won both games 1-0 with Soderstrom supplying both goals. Her three GWG on the year are tied for the BIG EAST lead, while her seven goals list fourth.
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Kristin Barbour, Villanova, Sr., M/D
Barbour led the Wildcats to a pair of wins last week as the Villanova defense limited its opponents to just six shots on net. VU outshot Seton Hall and DePaul by a combined 13-6 on-target margin, while limiting both squads to just five total corners as Villanova collected 11. The senior added a bit of offense as well, scoring the game-winning goal against DePaul on Sunday, which kept the Wildcats in a tie for second place in the standings.
BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week
Stephanie Rodriguez, Butler, Jr., GK
Rodriguez earned a pair of shutout victories last week to bring her season tally up to a BIG EAST-best six. The junior made five saves in an overtime win at Creighton on Thursday before stopping three shots in a 1-0 home win over St. John’s on Sunday. The two wins also maintained the Bulldogs’ spot at No. 2 in the BIG EAST season standings.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Alex Campana, Marquette, Fr., M/F
Campana tied for the rookie lead in scoring last week, tallying three points in a 2-0 week for the Golden Eagles. Down 2-0 in the second half at St. John’s, Campana came off the bench and scored MU’s first of three straight goals to rally and earn the comeback victory. At Seton Hall on Sunday, the rookie helped Alyssa Bombacino notch a hat trick, assisting on her third goal of the game. Campana also tallied five shots on the week.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Ansley Atkinson, Creighton, So., M
Atkinson provided what proved to be the game-tying goal at No. 10 Georgetown on Sunday, scoring in the 42
nd minute. The Bluejays held on for the draw, marking their second time in three seasons of earning a result on the nationally ranked Hoyas’ home pitch.
Toni Bizzarro, Xavier, Sr., GK
Bizzarro earned the shutout victory over Providence on Sunday, making three saves to blank the Friars. The win moved the Musketeers up to fourth place in the standings and was Xavier’s eighth shutout of the season – most in the BIG EAST.
Alyssa Bombacino, Marquette, So., F
Bombacino notched the first hat trick in BIG EAST play this season with a trio of scores at Seton Hall on Sunday. The sophomore scored the game’s first, third and fourth goals of a 5-0 victory as she also got credit for the game winner.
Zsani Kajan, St. John’s, R-Jr., F
Kajan posted her second multi-goal game of the season with two scores in a 3-2 setback to Marquette on Thursday. The redshirt-junior registered seven shots on the week to rank fourth in the BIG EAST.
Chloe O’Neill, Villanova, So., F
O’Neill finished second in the BIG EAST in points last week with five off two goals and an assist. The sophomore had a goal at Seton Hall and against DePaul, while adding a dish against the Pirates. Her score against the Blue Demons was the first of three straight for the Wildcats, who went on to win 3-1, while her goal against The Hall was the third of a 5-1 victory after assisting on what proved to be Sam Rosette’s GWG.
