NEW YORK – Georgetown’s Corey Moon and Drew Carbone garner the second BIG EAST swimming and diving awards of the 2019-20 season as the Hoya men’s and women’s squads took down Towson in weekend action.
 
BIG EAST Women’s Athlete of the Week
Corey Moon, Georgetown, Fr., Free/IM (Hillsborough, N.J.)
In her first collegiate meet, Moon helped lead the Hoyas to a victory over Towson with a pair of individual wins in distance events. The rookie claimed a win in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:19.09 to win by a comfortable 12.5-second margin. Moon touched the wall in 5:05.83 in the 500-yard freestyle to beat her teammate by two full seconds. Moon’s times are tops in the BIG EAST this season, while her 10:19.09 1,000-yard free is 52nd in the nation.

BIG EAST Men’s Athlete of the Week
Drew Carbone, Georgetown, Jr., Back/IM (Chelmsford, Mass.)
In Georgetown's first meet of the season, Carbone came away with three individual victories, sweeping the backstroke events and also winning the 200-yard IM. Carbone’s triumph in the 200 IM sealed the Hoyas' 155-145 victory over Towson with just one event remaining. The junior took the 100-yard backstroke by more than two full seconds with a time of 49.36 to lead the BIG EAST and rank 33rd in the nation. Carbone closed out his strong performance with a win in the 200-yard backstroke by more than six seconds in 1:48.02 to finish tops in the BIG EAST and clinch the 22nd best time in the country in 2019-2020.
 
Notable Performances
Ben LaClair, Seton Hall, So., Free/Back (Belchertown, Mass.)
LaClair swam a BIG EAST-best 4:38.66 to win the 500 freestyle followed up by a victory in the 200 freestyle as well with a time of 1:42.08. The sophomore also finished second in the 100 freestyle (47.06) and was part of winning 200 and 400 freestyle relays.
 
Hannah Pugh, Butler, Fr., Fly/Back/IM (Fishers, Ind.)
Pugh impressed in her collegiate debut in the Bulldogs’ setback at Illinois State. The rookie won the 100 backstroke with a time of 59.48 and was the top performer in the 200 back with the fourth-best time in the BIG EAST this season at 2:08.38.
 
Justin Cucchi, Villanova, Sr., Back/IM (Atlanta, Ga.)
In the Wildcats’ first meet of the season Justin Cucchi picked up a win in the 100-back with a time of 1:01.6.
 
Bridie Dunn, Villanova, Sr., Diver, (Bethesda, Md.)
In diving action, Dunn was the Wildcats’ top finisher in a contest against competitors from Pittsburgh, Duquesne, and Youngstown State. The senior finished third in the 3m competition with a mark of 247.45, followed up by a second place finish in the 1m at 256.15

#BIGEASTswim Results
Butler traveled to Normal Ill., for a contest against Illinois State. The host Redbirds took the meet 182-97.

Georgetown swept Towson with wins on the men’s and women’s side with identical 155-145 victories over the visiting Tigers.


Seton Hall competed against Rider for the second consecutive week, where the Pirate men picked up their second victory over the Broncs 1,333-979, while the women finished second with 787 points to Rutgers’ 1,481.
