BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Alyssa Bombacino, Marquette, So., F
Bombacino continued her scoring barrage by posting her second hat trick in as many matches in Marquette’s 3-1 win over Villanova on Sunday. The sophomore now leads the Golden Eagles with seven goals after notching hat tricks in the last two games against Seton Hall and Villanova. The win for MU moved them into a tie for fourth place in the BIG EAST standings and stretched the Golden Eagles’ unbeaten streak to four matches.
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Annika Schmidt, Butler, R-Sr., D
Schmidt played lights out defense in the Bulldogs’ 0-0 draw against No. 11 Georgetown on Sunday. Schmidt and the rest of the back line limited Georgetown to just one shot on goal throughout the 2OT match. It marked the first time in 10 matches the nationally ranked Hoyas were held without a goal. She played all 110 minutes for the Bulldogs and added one shot on target.
BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week
Shelby Hogan, Providence, R-Jr., GK
Hogan had a season-high 12 saves as the Friars earned a crucial road win over Creighton on Saturday. The Bluejays fired 25 shots on the afternoon but the redshirt-junior remained steadfast, surrendering just one first-half goal. Hogan made 10 second-half saves and Hannah McNulty scored twice as Providence came from behind to win. The victory moved PC into a tie for fourth place in the BIG EAST standings.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Anna Leat, Georgetown, Fr., GK
Leat picks up her third certificate in the last four weeks after earning her sixth shutout of the season. The rookie made five saves in a 110-minute scoreless draw at Butler on Sunday, helping No. 11 Georgetown to stretch its unbeaten streak to a BIG EAST-best 10 matches.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Morgan Turner, DePaul, Jr., F
Turner scored twice in a 4-0 win over Seton Hall on Saturday, including the 11
th-minute game winner. She increased her season scoring tally to seven, including a BIG EAST-best fourth game winner.
Jackie Batliner, DePaul, Jr., D
Batliner was effective on both sides of the field, helping the Blue Demons to their seventh shutout of the season while also dishing three assists to tie for the BIG EAST single-game high this season.
Maddy Henry, Marquette, Sr., GK
Henry recorded nine saves as Marquette won its third match in a row on Sunday afternoon against Villanova. MU’s all-time saves leader made two big stops off a Kristin Barbour penalty kick in the 63rd minute to keep the Golden Eagles ahead in a 2-1 match.
Hannah McNulty, Providence, Jr., F
McNulty scored twice in a span of less than five minutes to help Providence erase a 1-0 deficit and win at Creighton on Saturday, 2-1. It marked her first multi-goal game of the season and moved her into a tie for the BIG EAST lead with her fourth game winner of the year.
Samantha Dewey, Xavier, R-Sr., M
Dewey scored her fourth game-winner of the season in the opening minutes of Xavier’s 3-0 win over St. John’s. The goal was her 13th of the season, adding to her league high, and fourth of conference play.
