NEW YORK – Xavier scored a road win over Marquette and capitalized on a 14
th-ranked Georgetown loss at DePaul to leap over the Hoyas for the top spot in the BIG EAST women’s soccer standings. With the win, the Musketeers increased their point total to 15, clinching a spot in the BIG EAST Championship presented by Jeep. Xavier is the first team to punch its ticket into the six-team field. Other notable results include St. John’s thrilling comeback victory at Villanova to remain alive in the postseason race, while Butler and Creighton scored late in crucial 1-0 road wins. All 10 teams return to the pitch on Sunday for the second-to-last set of conference tilts. All five 1 p.m. ET matches will stream live on the BIG EAST Digital Network presented by SoFi.
Xavier 2, Marquette 1
The Musketeers notched two goals within the first seven minutes to set the tone early at Marquette en route to earning their program-record fifth BIG EAST win of the season. XU was awarded a penalty kick in the fifth minute which Grace Bahr converted, before Molly McLaughlin notched what proved to be the game winner in the seventh. Maddie Monticello’s first goal of the season halved Xavier’s advantage, and despite outshooting Xavier 6-5 over the final 45 minutes, Marquette was unable to complete the comeback. Toni Bizzarro had two saves in the victory while Maddy Henry was credited with five stops for the Golden Eagles. Xavier’s win is its third consecutive and halted MU’s unbeaten streak at four matches.

DePaul 1, #14 Georgetown 0 (OT)
The Blue Demons dealt the nationally ranked Hoyas their first BIG EAST loss since Oct. 15, 2017, with a 1-0 overtime stunner in Chicago. Morgan Turner notched the golden goal less than two minutes into extra time, her eighth score of the year and fifth game winner. The win over a ranked foe is the second of the year for DePaul, which landed alone in fourth place in the BIG EAST standings following the victory. Each squad had just one shot land on target, with the Blue Demons scoring on their strike and Mollie Eriksson denying the Hoyas’ bid. Eriksson’s shutout was her seventh of the season. GU finished with a 5-4 advantage in shots and 4-2 lead in corner kicks.

St. John's 4, Villanova 3 (OT)
Zsani Kajan notched her second career hat trick to lead the Red Storm to a comeback win at Villanova. Trailing 3-1 midway through the second half, Kajan scored her second of the game in the 62
nd minute before Samantha Masur’s 73
rd-minute equalizer. Knotted at 3-3 after regulation, Kajan needed just 25 seconds into the bonus period to score the golden goal. The win moved St. John’s within four points of the three-way tie for fifth place in the BIG EAST standings, which includes Villanova. Brice McInroy scored twice for the Wildcats on the afternoon while Chloe O’Neill also chipped in a goal. VU outshot St. John’s 16-11.

Butler 1, Providence 0
The Bulldogs moved into a tie with No. 14 Georgetown for second place in the standings after picking up their eighth shutout of the season. Butler stretched its unbeaten streak to five matches thanks to Macy Miller’s 67
th-minute strike for the contest’s lone goal. Butler outshot Providence 16-11 but just one PC shot was on target as Stephanie Rodriguez made just one save in the clean sheet. Shelby Hogan had five stops for the Friars, who move into a three-way tie with Villanova and Marquette for fifth place in the standings.

Creighton 1, Seton Hall 0
Jaylin Bosak broke through in the 76
th minute to keep Creighton’s postseason hopes alive thanks to a 1-0 win at Seton Hall on Thursday. The Bluejays outshot the Pirates 15-3 as Harpa Johannsdottir had four stops in the setback. Katie Sullivan had one save to earn her fourth shutout of the season. Bosak’s goal, off a feed from Ansley Atkinson, was her third of the season and second game winner.
