NEW YORK –   Three of the five games this weekend went to extra time as the 2019 BIG EAST men’s soccer regular season wanes with two matches left to play. Georgetown remains at the top of the standings with a 3-0 win over Marquette on Saturday afternoon. No. 7 Georgetown has won six games in a row, and has not lost a game since Sept. 24. The win over Marquette was the Hoyas’ seventh-straight shutout. The win gave Georgetown a bye to the BIG EAST Championship semifinal where Shaw Field will be one of the host sites.

St. John's holds steady to the No. 2 spot in the standings recording a 1-1 double overtime draw at Seton Hall on Saturday night. The fourth-ranked Red Storm is 5-1-1 in league play, 12-2-1 overall. St. John’s is three points behind Georgetown (13-1-1, 6-0-1) and four points clear of Providence in third.

Providence’s Paulo Lima scored the golden goal in the 98th minute to defeat Creighton 3-2.  The Friars’ win gives them sole possession of third place at 4-3-0 (12 points) in conference play. Butler’s Joel Harvey scored the victory for the Bulldogs with golden goal in the 103rd minute at home against Villanova. The Bulldogs (9-5-1, 3-3-1)  are in fourth in the current standings with 10 points, one point above a three-way tie for fifth.

Xavier made it two league wins in a row on Saturday with a 1-0 victory over DePaul. The Musketeers (7-6-1, 3-4-0) have played themselves out of the bottom in the last three games and are currently in the three-way logjam for fifth in the standings. Joining Xavier is Creighton and Marquette. Only six teams make the BIG EAST Championship, which plays Nov. 9, Nov 13 and Nov. 17.

Rounding out the current standings are Seton Hall (5-7-1, 2-4-1) with seven points, DePaul (5-7-3, 1-3-3) with six points and Villanova  (8-7-1, 1-5-1) with four points.

BIG EAST men’s soccer continues this weekend with four games Saturday and one on Sunday. The final non-conference games of the season will be played on Tuesday with Seton Hall against Army West Point and Xavier against UNC Asheville.

No. 7 GEORGETOWN 3, MARQUETTE 0
The first goal of the game came in the 17th minute on some fancy footwork from Georgetown’s Jacob Montes.  The junior dribbled through the defense, but before he could fire, an MU defender cleared it into his own net to make it 1-0. Just two minutes later, senior Dylan Nealis was taken down in the box resulting in the Achara penalty kick to give the Blue & Gray the 2-0 advantage. The three players combined for GU's third goal of the game as Montes started a run in the middle of the pitch passing to Achara.  The senior passed across the face of the goal to Dodson who connected at the far post to make it 3-0 in the 55th minute. Georgetown outshot Marquette 17-7 (8-3 SOG) and held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks. Giannis Nikopolidis managed three saves in the win as he and Ethan Koehler combined to get the shutout. Cedrik Stern tallied five saves and took the loss for Marquette.

XAVIER 1, DEPAUL 0
Xavier freshman Karsen Henderlong stole a DePaul defender's pass just outside the top of the box. The forward took a few dribbles after the steal and found the back of the net for the lone goal of the match. Musketeer redshirt-junior Matthew Rosenberg (7-6-1) made two saves, increasing his season total to 66. He now has four shutouts this season and 13 career shutouts. DePaul held a 10-7 advantage in shots. Xavier posted five more corner kicks (8-3) than the Blue Demons and committed one more foul (8-7). DePaul’s Drew Nuelle made two saves.

PROVIDENCE 3, CREIGHTON 2 (OT)
Creighton took the lead in the eighth minute. A foul on Providence’s Paulo Lima gave the Bluejays a free kick just outside the 18-yard box. Yudai Tashiro converted on the kick and put Creighton up 1-0.  In the 42nd minute the Friars were able to find the equalizer and knot the game at one goal apiece. Gil Santos created some space off the defender and sent the ball into center of the 18-yard box where Roman scored off a header into dead center net. This was Roman's first goal of the season. The Friars gave themselves a 2-1 lead in the 81st minute on a Davis Smith goal. Santos was able to beat the defender and pass the ball to Tiago Mendonca  in the six-yard box. Mendonca gave the ball back where Santos handed it off to Smith who took the final touch into the net.  In the 85th minute Creighton tied the game at 2-2 on a free kick. Yudai Tashiro scored his second goal in the game off a free kick opportunity. In overtime, Lima scored the golden goal in the 98th minute to give Providence the win. Smith dished the ball inside the box to Lima who scored on a side volley into lower left of the net.  The Friars outshot the Bluejays 25-7 and held the advantage in corner kicks 13-1.

No. 4 ST. JOHN’S 1, SETON HALL 1 (2OT)
Tani Oluwaseyi scored the lone goal of the game for St. John's, putting the Red Storm ahead 1-0 with a header in the 50th minute.  Seton Hall tied it in the 76th minute following a corner kick, as Eden O'Leary headed one past Luka Gavran to knot the score at 1-1. St. John's outshot Seton Hall on the match by a margin 15-12.  Seton Hall junior Andreas Nota only needed to make one save on the evening, but it was a huge stop of a point-blank shot in the first overtime period. St. John’s split time with their keepers Luka Gavran and Jan Hoffelner. Gavran played the second half into the overtimes (65 minutes) and had two saves. The two teams combined for 27 shots, but only five went on goal.

BUTLER 1, VILLANOVA 0 (2OT)
Joel Harvey's corner kick found the net in the 103rd minute, giving the Bulldogs a 1-0 win over Villanova at Varsity Field in Indianapolis. The golden goal was Harvey's third tally of the season. Less than three minutes into the second overtime period, Butler pressure resulted in a corner kick. Harvey stepped up to it and swung his left foot, which resulted in a curving kick toward the near post. The ball went just over the out-stretched frames of both a Butler attacker and Villanova defender, sneaking just inside the post. Butler and Villanova went back and forth throughout the match, combining for 35 shots. Gabriel Gjergji posted the shutout for Butler – his fifth of the season – making two saves along the way. Butler out-shot Villanova, 23-12, and had an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.
