Butler’s Cascino, Seton Hall’s Staudt Earn Weekly Golf Honors

NEW YORK – Butler’s Michael Cascino has been named BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week and Seton Hall’s Sammie Staudt has been tabbed BIG EAST Female Golfer of the Week.  Cascino took medalist honors at the Skyhawk Fall Classic and Staudt tied for second place at the Princeton Invitational. 
 
BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week
Michael Cascino, Butler, Jr. – Cascino grabbed first place at the Skyhawk Fall Classic in Buchanan, Tenn., finishing with a playoff victory.  For 54 holes, Cascino shot a two-under 214 (72-69-73) and defeated Murray State’s Dalton in the first playoff hole.  Butler placed second in the team standings.  Cascino has been the Bulldog leader in the team’s last two meets.  He tied for eighth place at the Crusader Challenge.  
 
BIG EAST Female Golfer of the Week
Sammie Staudt, Seton Hall, Sr. – Staudt shot a 1-over-par 73 in the final round of the Princeton Invitational to help lead the Pirates to the team title.  The senior tied for second place individually among a field of 80 golfers with a career-low 3-under 141 (68-73).  Staudt finished three strokes behind the leader.  The Hall claimed its first title of the fall season with a 1-under-par 575 (283-292). 
 
Women’s Notes St. John’s and Georgetown also competed at the Princeton Invitational.  St. John’s took sixth place with a team score of 608.  After firing an even-par in the opening round, senior Kaitleen Shee completed her best score of the fall, posting a 1-over-par 145 to tie for eighth place.  Linda Wang finished 13th. Georgetown turned in scores of 303 and 308 to finish ninth in the team standings.  Freshman Lauren May was the top Hoya with a 7-over-par 151, tying for 23rd overall.  Senior Ashley Fitzgibbons compiled a 9-over 153 to tie for 35th.
 
Men’s Notes – At the Villanova Invitational, Georgetown finished fourth, the host Wildcats were fifth and St. John’s was seventh.  Georgetown had three among the top 10 places with freshman Pieter DeGroot leading the way with a 211 (72-70-69).  He tied for fifth.  Senior Eduardo Blochtein and freshman David Rogers were in a tie for 10th at 215.  For Villanova, freshman Matt Minerva was the Wildcat leader, with rounds of 68 and 70.  He finished in the tie for fifth with GU’s DeGroot.  Sophomore Tyler Gerbavsits was tops for St. John’s, tying for 17th place, shooting a 77 in the first round followed by a pair of 71s to finish at 219…Creighton placed fourth at the Zach Johnson Invitational in West Des Moines, Iowa.  Junior Nate Vontz led the Bluejays with a 218 (73-71-74), three shots behind the winner.  Vontz had entered the final round only two shots off the lead.
