Xavier’s Kostarellis, Georgetown’s Wareham Take Weekly Cross Country Honors
NEW YORK – Xavier junior Anna Kostarellis and Gerogetown graduate student Nick Wareham have been named BIG EAST Female and Male Athletes of the Week, respectively, in Cross Country. Kostarellis won the Louisville Classic and Wareham had a strong performance at the Joe Piane Invitational.
BIG EAST Male Athlete of the Week
Nick Wareham, Georgetown, Gr. – Against a 22-team field that included 13 teams nationally ranked or receiving votes, Wareham ran a time of 24:06.80 in the 5-mile race at the Joe Piane Invitational in Notre Dame, Ind. He finished 35th individually and helped the Hoya men to an 11th-place team finish. The Hoyas finished ahead of ranked squads Wyoming, Alabama and Colorado State.
BIG EAST Female Athlete of the Week
Anna Kostarellis, Xavier, Jr. – Kostarellis won her second meet of the season and broke her own school record while capturing the individual title at the Louisville Classic at E.P.”Tom” Sawyer Park. Her time for the 5K race was 16:43.10, breaking the record she set when she won the Queen City Invitational on Oct. 5. Kostarellis won in a field of 342 runners and took BIG EAST weekly honors for the second time this season.

Men’s News – In his official collegiate debut, Haftu Strintzos of
Villanova finished 14th among 393 runners at the Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pa. He covered the 8K race in 23:44.0 and averaged a 4:46.5 mile. Strintzos enrolled at Villanova in January and competed as an unattached runner in the spring of 2019…Sophomore John Quigley paced
Creighton, finishing 29th at the Rim Rock Farm Collegiate Classic in Lawrence, Kan. He completed the 8K race in 27:16.9 to help the Bluejays place fifth in the team standings…
DePaul junior Charlie McIntyre again was the top performing Blue Demon, running 8k in a time of 24:36.3 at the Louisville Classic.

Villanova and
Georgetown competed in the Paul Short Run. Wildcat freshman Maggie Smith finished fourth in a field of 369 runners with a time of 19:47.4 in the 6K race. The time was the fifth fastest 6K time in school history. Hoya graduate student Madeline Perez took 11th place and helped the Hoyas finish fifth in a field of 38 teams. Perez ran the 6K race in a time of 20:07.3, which was her personal best by 38 seconds.Angelina Ellis of
Butler led the Bulldogs with a career-best 5K time of 16:58.39 at the Joe Piane Invite at Notre Dame. The junior finished 38th overall in the Blue Race. Butler took 13th in the team standings…
Creighton sophomore Danielle Hotaling finished eighth at the Rim Rock Farm Collegiate Classic in Lawrence, Kan. Her time in the 6K race with 23:56.8 which helped the Bluejays finish third as a team. She passed five runners in the last mile to post her third top-10 finish this fall…At the NJIT Highlander Challenge,
Seton Hall senior Kassi Yocco finished fourth in a field of 259 runners with a time of 18:14.65 in the 5K run. She helped the Pirates finish first in a 29-team field. Yocco beat her previous best time by over a minute. Yocco has three top-five finishes this fall…
DePaul freshman Alexa Havon was the top Blue Demon finisher at the Louisville Classic with a personal best time of 18:14.5 in the 5K.
