#BIGEASTfh Minute – Championship Field Is Set, Connecticut Earns Outright Regular Season Title

 
NEW YORK – With the results of Friday’s games, the bracket is set for the 2019 BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship presented by Jeep. Connecticut won its seventh straight BIG EAST regular-season championship title outright with the Huskies’ fifth consecutive undefeated conference season.  Connecticut closed out the final day of the 2019 BIG EAST season with a 5-0 win over Georgetown to finish conference play 7-0.
 
Svea Boker scored two goals in the five-goal shutout as Connecticut won its 39th straight BIG EAST regular-season game.
 
Top-seed Connecticut will play against No. 4 seed Providence in the first semifinal on Friday at 11 a.m. ET at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey Stadium in Hamden, Conn. No. 2 seed Old Dominion will play third seeded Liberty at 2 p.m. Both games will be carried on the BIG EAST Digital Network presented by SoFi.
 
Old Dominion finished out BIG EAST play 6-1 with a 6-0 win over Villanova. Alexandria Brewer scored twice for the Monarchs.
 
Liberty claimed the third seed in the championship with a 2-0 win over Providence. Freshmen Daniella Rhodes and Charlotte Vaanhold scored for the Lady Flames. Liberty finished the season with a 5-2 record. The Friars finished BIG EAST play 4-3.
 
Closing out the final day of conference competition was Quinnipiac with a 3-2 double overtime win over Temple. Bobcat Julianna Capello scored the golden goal for Quinnipiac in the 75th minute. Quinnipiac and Temple finished the conference season tied for fifth at 2-5.
 
Villanova and Georgetown ended league play at 1-7.
 
The 2019 field hockey regular season has four games left. Georgetown will play at Sacred Heart at 11 a.m.  on Sunday, followed by No. 18 Liberty hosting No. 4 Duke, No. 3 Connecticut hosting University of Massachusetts and Temple hosting LIU Brooklyn at 1 p.m.
