BIG EAST teams went 5-for-5 on Saturday to improve their own records to 2-0 and the overall league mark to 18-0.

All was not without some bumps in the road, however.  Seton Hall, while hosting Stony Brook at Walsh Gym, lost Preseason BIG EAST Player of the Year Myles Powell to an ankle injury just 3:31 into the game.  He did not return.  His Pirate teammates took over and posted a 74-57 victory.  Four players reached double figures led by Sandro Mamukelashvili, who had 17 points.  Quincy McKnight scored 14 points and had no turnovers in 33 minutes.  Center Romaro Gill recorded his first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Butler has already had its share of injuries and illnesses, but the Bulldogs had a more complete lineup against preseason Southland Conference favorite New Orleans and posted a comfortable 79-53 victory.  Newcomer Bryce Nze had 18 points and 10 rebounds.  Aaron Thompson added 10 points and 10 assists.  Kamar Baldwin, who suffered a rib injury in the season opener, came off the bench to play 14 minutes and score four points.

St. John’s picked up its second win in the Mike Anderson Era, an 87-57 decision over Central Connecticut State at Carnesecca Arena.  Both victories have come by 30 points.  Mustapha Heron poured in 30 points and helped the Johnnies outscore CCSU 48-24 in the second half.  L.J. Figueroa added 17 points, six rebounds and six assists.

Providence also won by a big margin, handling NJIT 76-47.  David Duke led the Friars in scoring with 21 points.  Alpha Diallo filled his stat line with 15 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and three steals.  PC held NJIT to 32.7 shooting from the field.

Georgetown ended its first half against Central Arkansas with a 12-3 run to build a 54-42 halftime lead and maintained a double-figure advantage for most of the second half in an 89-74 victory.  Omer Yurtseven posted his second double-double in as many games with 17 points and 15 rebounds.  Jagan Mosely added 13 points.

BIG EAST teams are idle on Sunday, but the Gavitt Tipoff Games begin on Monday.  The lone game on Monday’s schedule is DePaul (3-0) at Iowa (1-0) on FS1 at 8 p.m. ET.
