Desiree Elmore averages 19.0 points, 11.5 rebounds in 2-0 week for the Pirates, while Leilani Correa has impressive Red Storm debut.

Elmore sparked the Pirates to a 2-0 opening week, averaging 19.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 blocks. The junior shot .722 from the field and made 11-of-12 attempts from the charity stripe. She was one rebound shy of back-to-back double-doubles, going for 20 points, nine rebounds, three blocks and three dimes in Wednesday’s win over Sacred Heart, before going for 18 points, 14 boards, three assists and two steals in Saturday’s victory over Fairfield.
 
BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Freshman of the Week
Leilani Correa, St. John’s, Fr., G
At St. Bonaventure on Tuesday, Correa scored a game-high 18 points while grabbing six boards to lead St. John’s to an impressive road win to open the year. The freshman guard made 7-of-10 attempts from the field and played 25 minutes of turnover-free basketball in her debut. The last Red Storm player to score 18+ in their first collegiate game was Kia Wright, who blew up for 33 points in 2004.
 
BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll
Temi Carda, Creighton, Jr., G
Carda posted the single-game high last week with 25 points off 7-of-12 shooting in Tuesday’s win at Omaha. She added six rebounds, four assists and four steals to stuff the stat sheet in the Bluejays’ season opener.
A’riana Gray, Xavier, Jr., F
Gray posted a 14-point, 14-rebounds double-double in the Musketeers’ impressive win over Utah on Thursday night. She added two steals and two assists.
Selena Lott, Marquette, Jr., G
Lott posted two of the highest scoring outings of the week, going for back-to-back 24-point performances in wins over Morgan State and St. Francis (N.Y.). MU went 3-0 including a win over Illinois State, with Lott averaging a team-best 17.7 points along with 5.3 assists.
Chante Stonewall, DePaul, Sr., F
Stonewall had an impressive debut on Friday, leading No. 18/20 DePaul to a Preseason WNIT First Round win over visiting Miami (Ohio) with 23 points, 12 rebounds and five steals. She shot 11-fo-14 from the field and collected seven offensive rebounds.
Kaela Webb, Providence, So., G
Webb led the Friars to a road win at UMass on Saturday, scoring a game-high 22 points, including 6-of-11 clip from beyond the arc, while adding three rebounds and two steals.
