NEW YORK - Georgetown's Michael Wheeler and Samantha Kim are the latest BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Athletes of the Week. Wheeler led the Hoya men to a 219-79 victory over Fordham last weekend with two wins in distance events, while Kim posted two individual event victories as the Hoya women fell narrowly to Fordham 159-141.

Also in action, the Xavier women's squad fell to Indiana State 199-62, while Butler participated in the Indianapolis Invitational where the Bulldogs fell to Indianapolis, Lewis and Bellarmine. Providence faced Sacred Heart and Rhode Island in a double dual meet last Tuesday where the Friars dropped to the Pioneers 144-135 and the Rams 159-115.

Male Female Athlete of the Week
Michael Wheeler, Georgetown, So., Free (Lafayette, Calif.)
Wheeler notched multiple individual victories en route to Georgetown's 219-79 win over Fordham. The sophomore got things started with a victory by a 25-second margin in the 1,000-freestyle with a time of 9:32.33. Wheeler continued to shine with a win in the 500-yard freestyle with a margin of victory of nearly eight seconds with a time of 4:35.05. Wheeler's mark in the 500 Free is the best in the BIG EAST by three seconds while his 1,000 Free time is also tops in the conference.

Female Athlete of the Week
Samantha Kim, Georgetown, Fr., Breast/IM (Weston, Conn.)
Kim led the women's squad with two individual victories in a narrow defeat to Fordham last weekend. Kim swept both breaststroke events winning the 100 Breast by more than two seconds at a time of 1:06.72. The rookie posted a time of 2:22.14 to win the 200 Breast by nearly five seconds. Kim's time in the 200 Breast is second-best in the BIG EAST, while her mark in the 100 Breast is fourth in the conference this season.
