Final #BIGEASTfh Weekly Awards Shared Among UConn, Liberty and Quinnipiac

NEW YORK – Connecticut’s Svea Boker earns her fourth BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honor, while Liberty’s Mallory Fortenbaugh earns Defensive honors for the first time this season. Quinnipiac freshman forward Julianna Capello earned Freshman of the Week awards.
BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week

Svea Boker, Connecticut, Sr., F (Bremen, Germany)
Connecticut senior forward Svea Boker scored three goals and added an assist in a 2-0 week for the Huskies. In the Huskies’ 5-0 victory over Georgetown, Boker scored two goals on just two shots on target in 52 minutes of action, helping UConn win the BIG EAST regular season title outright.  In the final game of the regular season, a 5-1 win over UMass, Boker scored the first goal on a penalty stroke, then assisted the final goal of the game.
 
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Mallory Fortenbaugh, Liberty, Sr., D (Millerstown, Pa.)
Liberty senior defender Mallory Fortenbaugh helped the Lady Flames record their seventh shutout of the season in Liberty’s 2-0 home victory over No. 25 Providence on Friday. The win helped Liberty earn the No. 3 seed in the upcoming BIG EAST Championship. On Sunday against No. 4 Duke, which ended in a 3-2 overtime loss for Liberty, Fortenbaugh scored a first half goal. In three games last week, all against fellow ranked foes, Liberty gave up just four goals.
 
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Julianna Capello, Quinnipiac, Fr., F (Mohegan Lake, N.Y.)
Quinnipiac freshman forward Julianna Capello scored two goals, including the game-winner in double overtime, to beat Temple in the final game of the 2019 season. Her game-winner came with 5:38 remaining in the second overtime period. Capello finished the season second on the team with six goals and led QU with five goals in BIG EAST play. With her pair of goals Friday, she had goals in back-to-back games to end the season and was one of just two players (3 instances) for the Bobcats with a two-goal game.
 
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Alexandria Brewer, Old Dominion, Sr., M
Brewer netted two goals on two shots to lead the Monarchs to a 6-0 victory over Villanova. It was Brewer’s first multi-goal effort of the season.
Rebecca Birch, Old Dominion, Sr., B
Birch led an ODU defense to a 6-0 shutout victory over Villanova, holding the Wildcat offense to just two shots and one penalty corner. Offensively, Birch scored a goal and added an assist.
Mack Vorel, Quinnipiac, Fr. GK
Vorel made four saves and earned her team-leading third win of the season in Friday’s double overtime victory over Temple. Two of Vorel’s saves came in overtime, helping QU to 3-2 win.
