Megan Duffy wins coaching debut at Marquette while Creighton and St. John’s also pick up season-opening victories.

Marquette 70, Morgan State 48
Marquette opened the 2019-20 campaign and Megan Duffy era with a 70-48 victory over Morgan State on Tuesday afternoon at the Al McGuire Center. Three Golden Eagles (1-0) scored in the double figures, led by junior guard Selena Lott, who tallied a career-high 24 points. She scored 17 of her 24 points in the second half, shooting a scorching 9-for-13 from the field and 4-for-7 from behind the arc. Lott's previous career-high was 19 points, which she hit on March 3, 2019 at Providence. Senior Isabelle Spingola added 13 points, three assists and three boards while freshman forward Camryn Taylor chipped in 10 points and three boards in her collegiate debut.

St. John’s 68, St. Bonaventure 56
Behind a stellar 18-point performance from freshman guard Leilani Correa, the St. John's women's basketball team won at St. Bonaventure, 68-56, in the team's season opener on Tuesday. Correa burst onto the scene, draining seven of her 10 tries from the field to lead the Johnnies in her collegiate debut. The last St. John's rookie to score 18 or more points in their first taste of college action was Kia Wright, who scored 33 points in 2004. In addition to her scoring ability, the Manchester, N.J., native grabbed six boards for the Red Storm.

Creighton 67, Nebraska-Omaha 54
Behind a career-high 25 points from junior Temi Carda, the Creighton women's basketball team delivered a 67-54 road win over Nebraska-Omaha on Tuesday. The Bluejays set the tone early with a 23-point opening quarter. Jaylyn Agnew joined Carda in double figures with 14 points, while Creighton forced 18 Maverick miscues while committing just seven turnovers of their own. Carda was 7-of-12 from the field, including a 4-of-5 clip from deep.

Davidson 66, Georgetown 52
Georgetown (0-1) put together a solid second half, but could not overcome an early deficit falling 66-52 to the Davidson Wildcats in both teams' season opener at Belk Arena in Davidson, N.C. Nikola Kovacikova led the Hoyas with 12 points, and Anita Kelava added 10 for two GU players in double figures. The duo also combined for 16 rebounds. Georgetown was outrebounded 46-38 but forced 18 Davidson turnovers while committing just 14. GU shot 30.8 percent (20 for 65), but allowed the Wildcats 41.7 percent (25 for 60) shooting from the field.

Providence at Yale - SUSPENDED
Providence traveled to New Haven, Conn. to face Yale in the 2019-20 season opener at John J. Lee Amphitheater. The game was suspended at halftime due to a scoreboard malfunction, with the Friars leading 42-33. The two schools will work together to find a mutually agreed upon date to complete the final 20 minutes of play, and additional details will be released when available.
