No. 3 seed Providence is making its seventh-straight appearance in the BIG EAST Championship field, 20th overall. The Friars are the hottest team in the standings, having won their last four games, including a 2-0 shutout of 8th ranked St. John’s on Wednesday to close out the season. Marquette is appearing in the tournament for the ninth time overall. The Golden Eagles, the sixth seed, secured a tournament bid with a 1-0 road win at DePaul. During the regular season, Providence shut out Marquette, 2-0. The Friars lead the all-time series, 8-4-2. The two teams met just once in the BIG EAST Championship. Marquette won the meeting 3-2 in first round of the 2013 championship. The Friars are 12-5 this season and finished BIG EAST play 6-3-0. Marquette is 8-8-1 on the season, 4-5-0 in the league.

Butler returns to the tournament field after missing out in 2018. It is the Bulldogs’ fifth appearance. Butler did not make the field in 2014 or 2018. Butler won it all in 2016. Creighton has been runner up twice, in 2015 and 2016.  Creighton leads the all-time series 7-2-0. Butler won the only meeting in tournament action - the 2016 championship game.
