BIG EAST Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Barry Keane, Butler, R-So., Distance (Waterford, Ireland)
Butler redshirt sophomore Barry Keane collected a first-place finish in his season debut 3,000-meter race at the Blue and Gold Invitational hosted by Notre Dame on Dec. 6. Keane’s time of 8:05.42 leads the all competitors in the NCAA indoor list.
BIG EAST Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Daniel Armstrong, Marquette, Sr., Jumps (Michigan City, Ind.)
Marquette senior Daniel Armstrong won the high jump event at the Blue and Gold Invitational with a height of 2.16 meters. Armstrong’s jump tied for the lead NCAA height along with four other Division I competitors. His height ranks third overall at Marquette. Armstrong missed his PR by two inches (7 feet, 3 inches).
BIG EAST Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Destiny Davis, St. John’s, Sr., Sprints (Mobile, Ala.)
St. John’s senior sprinter Destiny Davis posted her best mark of the weekend at the Bill Ward Invitational, scoring a time of 24.71 in the 200-meter dash to take first place. Her mark ranks first in the BIG EAST and 15th in the NCAA. Davis also medaled for St. John’s in the 300-meter dash with a third-place time of 40.52.
BIG EAST Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Amarys Berry, St. John’s, Sr., Throws (Hackensack, N.J.)
St. John’s senior Amarys Berry secured first place in the shot put at both the Fordham Season Opener and the Bill Ward Invitational. Her best throw was at the Fordham Season Opener with a distance of 14.82 meters. Her mark leads the BIG EAST and ranks 32nd in the NCAA. The 14.82 meters also is a PR for her indoor career. Berry also medaled in the weight throw at both meets, posting a PR score of 16.11 meters at Fordham, followed by a 15.47-meter distance at the Bill Ward Invite.
Notable Performances
- Georgetown freshman Camden Gilmore had a strong indoor debut with a first-place finish in the men’s mile run at the Navy Invitational. His time of 4:11.16 led the BIG EAST and ranked fourth in the NCAA.
- Hoya teammate Maya Drayton finished fourth in the 400-meter dash at the Navy Invitational with a time of 56.77 which is second in the BIG EAST but 24th nationally. She also ran in the second leg of the Hoyas 4x400-meter relay which finished at a time of 3:52.51, ranking 31st nationally.
- Marquette freshman sprinter Julian Wright won his collegiate debut in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.22 which leads the BIG EAST and ranks 66th nationally.
- Golden Eagle teammate Arianna Mansavage placed second in the 400-meter dash at the Blue and Gold Invitational with a time of 56.99 which ranks third in the BIG EAST and 31st nationally.
- Xavier freshman middle distance runner Claire Sievern placed second in the 800-meter run at the Mastodon Opener with a time of 2:20.90. Her time leads the BIG EAST and ranks 39th in the NCAA.
