Cary, N.C. – No. 3 seed Georgetown will play against seventh-seeded Stanford in the first semifinal of the 2019 NCAA Men’s Soccer College Cup on Friday at 6 p.m. ET at the WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. The Hoyas are the 12th BIG EAST team to advance to the NCAA men’s soccer semifinals, first since 2014.

Georgetown is 2-0-1 against Stanford overall and played to a 1-1 double overtime draw last season at Shaw Field. The two teams have never met in the postseason. Two of the three meetings have gone to double overtime. Stanford advanced to the College Cup after winning PKs against second-seeded Clemson.
“We are excited to be here, it’s a pretty special event,” remarked Georgetown head coach Brian Wiese in Thursday’s media day press conference. “It has been a special run for us and any team that is here will echo the same sentiments… which is what makes getting here a special accomplishment. When you can succeed here, it is even more special because you are beating a team that is also having one of the best seasons of their program’s history. We’re excited for the challenge.”

The Hoyas (18-1-3), ranked second nationally, advanced to the College Cup after a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over sixth-seeded Washington on Dec. 7 at Shaw Field in Washington, D.C. After trailing much of the game, a free kick goal sparked the Blue & Gray come-back. Washington had scored in the fourth minute and led 1-0 through most of the game. Jacob Montes scored the game-tying goal in the 72nd minute with his free kick. Derek Dodson scored the game-winner in the 76th minute as Georgetown held on to win in front of 2,093 fans. Georgetown’s 18 wins are just one away from tying the program record of 19 set in 2012.
