Butler and DePaul became the first league teams to reach 10 wins with homecourt victories on Saturday.  Georgetown, Villanova and Providence also picked up wins.  Xavier and Seton Hall lost on the road.

BIG EAST teams have a combined record of 80-24 (.769).

Butler got its 10th win with a strong defensive effort, subduing Southern 66-41 at Hinkle Fieldhouse.  The Bulldogs held the Jaguars to 28 percent shooting from the field.  Butler extended its non-conference home winning streak to 57 games.  Bryce Golden led a balanced scoring attack with 12 points.

DePaul gained its 10th victory, beating Illinois-Chicago 86-65.  Paul Reed posted his nation-leading eighth double-double of the season with 16 points and 12 rebounds.  Charlie Moore scored a game-high 26 points and dished five assists.

Georgetown and Syracuse staged their annual meeting sporting uniforms that looked more like the mid-80s.  The Hoyas built a 38-26 halftime lead, but could not shake the Orange in the second half until securing an 89-79 victory.  Mac McClung scored 26 points.  Omer Yurtseven added 19 points and nine rebounds.  Jagan Mosely had 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

Villanova held off a stubborn Delaware club 78-70 in the Never Forget Classic played at Prudential Center.  The Wildcats built a 37-32 halftime edge and stopped several Delaware comeback attempts.  Jermaine Samuels led five players in double figures with 18 points.  Justin Moore came off the bench to add 16 points.

Providence used a 12-0 run midway in the second half to defeat Stony Brook 82-78.  David Duke and Luwane Pipkins each netted 21 points.  Alpha Diallo put up his 20th career double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds.

Down by 13 points with 7:30 left in the second half at Wake Forest, Xavier made a late run and cut the deficit to one point, but lost 80-78.   Paul Scruggs scored a career-high 30 points and Tyrique Jones had his sixth double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Seton Hall fell behind 14-0 at Rutgers and lost 68-48.  Late in the first half, Myles Powell suffered a concussion and did not return.  His status for Thursday’s game versus Maryland is uncertain.  Quincy McKnight scored a team-high 11 points.
The BIG EAST schedule is dark for Sunday and Monday.
