Shorthanded Seton Hall came up with an outstanding defensive effort to defeat Maryland 52-48 in front of 13,313 at Prudential Center.
 
In the only BIG EAST action on Thursday, the Pirates held the seventh-ranked Terps to 26.9 percent shooting from the field and blocked 15 shots.  Maryland made only 14 field goals.  Playing without top scorers Myles Powell and Sandro Mamukelashvili, Quincy McKnight stepped up to score a game-high 17 points and added eight rebounds, six assists and two steals.  Centers Romaro Gill and Ike Obiagu each blocked six shots. 
 
BIG EAST teams go into the weekend with a combined record of 87-25 (.777). 
 
Marquette is the only league team playing Friday.  The Golden Eagles (8-2), who have won their last three games, host North Dakota State on FS1 at 9 p.m. ET.  Markus Howard ranks second in the nation in scoring with a 25.2 average.
Saturday’s schedule is full of quality intersectional matchups.  In the afternoon, FOX is televising two contests in the BIG EAST-Big 12 Battle.  At noon ET, Kansas plays Villanova at Wells Fargo Center and Providence hosts Texas at 2 p.m.  Butler meets Purdue in the Crossroads Classic at 2:30 p.m. on BTN.  Georgetown hosts Samford at noon on FS1.
 
In the evening, DePaul hosts Northwestern at 8:30 p.m. on CBS Sports Network.  Also at 8:30 p.m., Creighton plays at Arizona State on the Pac-12 Network.  At 10 p.m. on ESPN2, St. John’s takes on No. 16 Arizona in San Francisco.
