Georgetown Hosts Washington In NCAA Quarterfinals On Saturday

NEW YORK – No. 3 seed Georgetown will host No. 6 seed Washington in the NCAA Quarterfinals on Saturday. The Hoyas are the last team left of the four BIG EAST men’s soccer teams to qualify for the tournament. Saturday’s game will air on the BIG EAST Digital Network presented by SoFi at noon.
 
Along with Georgetown, Washington, Clemson and Virginia, the other four finalists include SMU, U.C. Santa Barbara, Wake Forest and Stanford.

The last time a BIG EAST team was in the NCAA Quarterfinals was Providence in 2016. For Georgetown, it will be the third trip to the quarterfinals. The Hoyas are 1-0-1 in the quarterfinals with both previous matches occurring at Shaw Field.
 
Georgetown’s one loss this season had come at the hands of Louisville on Sept. 24. GU had lost 1-0 in double overtime.  The Hoyas defeated Louisville in the NCAA Third Round 5-1. Georgetown (17-1-2) has outscored its NCAA opponents 10-1 in the tournament so far. Georgetown leads all NCAA Tournament teams in assists per game (4.00), points per game (14.00), scoring offense (5.00), shots on goal/game (11.00), total assists (8), total goals (10) and total points (28). Georgetown ranks third in shutout percentage (0.500).

Georgetown’s Nealis Named MAC Hermann Trophy Semifinalist
Georgetown University senior defender Dylan Nealis was one of 15 men's soccer student-athletes that were selected on Tuesday as semifinalists for Missouri Athletic Club's (MAC) Hermann Trophy, the country's top college soccer honor. Nealis is the reigning two-time BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year and a two-time All-BIG EAST honoree.  He was also named to the BIG EAST All-Tournament team this season and has earned BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week honors three times in 2019. The defender has started all 21 games for the Blue & Gray and ranks fifth on the team in scoring with four goals and five assists for 13 points on the year.  The GU defense has 12 shutouts on the year. As a team, Georgetown is 17-1-3 and won the BIG EAST Regular Season as well as the BIG EAST Championship for the third consecutive year.
 
XU’s Sergi, CU’s Ramlo Named To CoSIDA Academic All-America Teams
Xavier senior forward Samson Sergi and Creighton senior defender Connor Ramlo represented BIG EAST men’s soccer on the 2019 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America teams, which were announced on Thursday. Sergi was voted to the second team while Ramlo was named to the third team. Sergi holds a 3.67 GPA in graduate school as he works to complete his master's in business administration. He holds a bachelor's degree in marketing from Xavier, completing the program with a 3.84 GPA. Creighton’s Ramlo owns a 3.98 cumulative GPA while studying finance in the Heider College of Business and plans to attend law school following the completion of his undergraduate studies.
