Georgetown’s Paula Germino-Watnick and Xavier’s Samantha Dewey honored by the United Soccer Coaches.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – United Soccer Coaches announced the 2019 NCAA Division I Women’s All-America Team on Thursday on the eve of the College Cup semifinals in San Jose, Calif. A total of 51 players receive All-America recognition this year, including six players who are earning the third All-America awards of their career. The BIG EAST saw two student-athletes garner third-team recognition as Georgetown’s Paula Germino-Watnick and Xavier’s Samantha Dewey were honored.

Germino-Watnick is a biology of global health major and holds a 3.82 GPA. She was unanimously selected as the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year and a unanimous All-BIG EAST First Team selection. The senior was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List earlier this year. She ranked second on the team with 26 points off of nine goals and eight assists. This is the 16th time in program history that Georgetown has had an All-American selection and Germino-Watnick is the 10th Hoya to be named an All-American. She was also named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team earlier on Thursday.

Dewey, a midfielder/forward from Fairland, Ind., started in all 23 matches for the Musketeers, leading the squad on offense with 30 points on 13 goals, including four game-winners, as well as four assists. Her 13-goal senior season will go as the fourth most in a single season in program history while the team's 43 goals scored are the second most in program history. Dewey was a unanimous selection to the 2019 All-BIG EAST First Team and was named to the USC All-East Region First Team after leading the Musketeers on offense as the program posted a record-breaking season, winning its first regular season conference title, first BIG EAST Tournament Championship and first NCAA Tournament match with a program-best 17 wins. Dewey's selection to the USC All-America Third Team is the second such honor for a Musketeer. She joins Xavier Hall of Famer Amanda Gruber ('98) as the only Musketeers to earn All-America Honors from the coaches' association.
