BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Player Of the Week
Mart’e Grays, DePaul, Sr., F
Grays becomes the third different DePaul player to garner BIG EAST Player of the Week accolades this season after the senior led the Blue Demons to a 2-0 weekend to move into a tie for second in the conference standings. Grays was the league’s top scorer last week, averaging 24.5 points off 80-percent shooting. She made 20-of-25 attempts from the field, including 6-of-8 from deep, and all three shots from the charity stripe. The senior added 3.0 rebounds per game in home wins over Villanova on Friday and Georgetown on Sunday. Her 31-point total against the Wildcats marked a career best, becoming the fourth BIG EAST player this season to reach the 30-point mark.
BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Freshman Of the Week
Mary Baskerville, Providence, Fr., F
Baskerville earns her fourth BIG EAST Freshman of the Week certificate of the season after averaging a double-double in a 1-1 week for the Friars. Baskerville went for 14 points and 14 rebounds in Friday’s win over Seton Hall before posting her fifth double-double of the year with 11 points off 5-for-5 shooting and 11 rebounds against St. John’s on Sunday. For the week she averaged 12.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and .733 shooting.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Curteeona Brelove, St. John’s, R-Sr., F
Brelove led the Red Storm to their first weekend sweep of the season, averaging 13.5 points and 3.5 rebounds in road wins at Creighton and Providence. She scored a game-high 15 points in Friday’s win in Omaha, going 6-of-11 from the field with three boards and two steals before a 12-point, four-rebound outing in Sunday’s win at Providence. In 57 minutes of play, Brelove committed zero turnovers.
Audrey Faber, Creighton, Sr., F
Faber finished second in the BIG EAST in scoring last week with her 20.0 average, highlighted by a game-high 26 points in Sunday’s come-from-behind win over Seton Hall. The senior added 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks in a 1-1 weekend.
Maddie Jolin, Providence, Sr., G
In a 1-1 weekend for the Friars, Jolin averaged 19.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals. She shot .524 from the field and was a perfect 14-of-14 from the free-throw line. She scored a game-high 25 points in Friday’s win over Seton Hall to even the season series.
Isabelle Spingola, Marquette, Jr., G
Spingola was the sharpshooter in the Golden Eagles’ 2-0 weekend knocking down 8-of-11 from deep to average 13.0 points in victories over Georgetown and Villanova. Tied entering the fourth quarter against the Hoyas, Spingola drained back-to-back threes to open the frame and give MU a six-point lead. Marquette held onto the lead the rest of the game to clinch a BIG EAST Tournament First Round bye.
Kristen Spolyar, Butler, Jr., G
In the Bulldogs’ lone game of the week, Spolyar scored a game-high 18 points, going 5-of-9 from beyond the arc, and added seven rebounds, five steals and three assists. Butler remained in second place in the BIG EAST standings with the win and claimed the season sweep over Xavier.
