NEW YORK – Heading into the second weekend of the season, all eight BIG EAST Softball teams will be competing throughout the country. Georgetown will travel as far as Las Vegas, Nev., and three teams will head to Florida. Both Providence and Villanova will compete in Kissimmee, Fla. at the Citrus Blossom Tournament, while Butler makes its way to Clearwater, Fla. Creighton and Seton Hall will each participate in the Mean Green Classic, hosted by North Texas.
Butler will compete in the Madeira Beach Invitational, beginning with meetings against Delaware and Murray State on Friday afternoon. The Bulldogs will continue Saturday morning versus George Mason, followed by a tilt with Holy Cross. They will close out the tournament in a game against Drexel on Sunday morning.
Creighton will go up against Arkansas-Pine Bluff in its first outing in Denton, Texas on Friday morning, and then face Northwestern State in the afternoon. The Bluejays will wait until Saturday afternoon to battle the host Mean Green. They will have another meeting with Arkansas-Pine Bluff to finish their competition on Saturday evening.
DePaul makes its way to Birmingham, Ala. to participate in the Samford Classic. They will battle Eastern Illinois first on Friday, then match up with the host Bulldogs later in the day. The Blue Demons have just one game scheduled for Saturday in another game versus Samford. Georgia State awaits DePaul on Sunday morning before heading home.
Georgetown heads out to Sin City for the Boyd Gaming Rebel Classic, hosted by UNLV. The Hoyas clash with Seattle first on Friday, and then meet up with BYU for the nightcap. They are set to face Utah Valley on Saturday, followed by a tilt with the host Rebels in the afternoon. A match up with UC Davis will close out the tournament for the Hoyas on Sunday morning.
Providence will be in the Sunshine State all weekend at the Citrus Blossom Tournament. The Friars will kick things off against Saint Joseph’s Friday morning, then match up with Bethune-Cookman in the afternoon. They will see Stetson on Saturday morning, and battle Kansas immediately afterward. Their final game of the weekend is against UMass on Sunday morning.
St. John’s will compete with UNC Greensboro in its first two games on Friday and Saturday of the Gamecock Invitational, hosted by South Carolina. The Red Storm collide with Campbell on Saturday evening before finishing up competition versus the host No. 15-ranked Gamecocks on Sunday afternoon.
Seton Hall joins Creighton in the Mean Green Classic and will face off with Northwestern State twice to begin the tournament—first on Friday evening and then on Saturday afternoon. They will go up against host North Texas on Saturday afternoon, followed by an encounter with Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sunday morning.
Villanova’s 2019 campaign will begin in Kissimmee with a spot in the Citrus Blossom Tournament. Action starts for the Wildcats against Iowa on Friday morning, and will face Missouri later in the afternoon. LIU Brooklyn awaits Villanova on Saturday morning just before a clash with Stetson. A meeting with Bethune Cookman is set for Sunday morning to close out the tournament.
