NEW YORK  –  All six BIG EAST men’s lacrosse teams return to action this weekend as Marquette kicks off the weekend slate with a Friday night 14-12 win over SoCon foe Jaksonville.

Marquette starts the season 2-0 for the fourth time in the program’s short history. Marquette led 7-3 at the half. Bob Pelton had a hat trick, while Andrew Romagnoli had two goals and two assists. The Golden Eagles will return to Milwaukee after the game to close out the month of February against Detroit Mercy on Feb. 23 at Valley Fields.

On Saturday, Denver faces No. 8/10 Duke in Durham, N.C. for an 11 a.m. faceoff. The Pioneers moved up the rankings two spots to No. 5/6 this week after defeating Air Force in the season-opener 11-4. Denver will play six of their next eight on the road.

At 12 p.m., No. 17/16 Georgetown hosts Robert Morris, while Providence plays “on the road” at nearby Bryant. The Hoyas are 1-0 and moved up a spot in both rankings after a 13-10 win over Sacred Heart last weekend. The Friars are 1-1 and are coming off a decisive 12-5 victory over Holy Cross. Providence lost the season-opener 8-7 to Boston University.

St. John’s plays on the road at Hartford after a 19-15 loss to No. 12/12 Rutgers in the season-opener.

Villanova will play at top-ranked Yale at 1 p.m. The Wildcats and Bulldogs have a series tied at 1-1. Villanova won last year’s meeting 10-9 in overtime on Feb. 17.

Both Marquette and Villanova are receiving votes in the national polls.
