Saturday Showdowns
No. 22/RV Georgetown will look to improve to 2-0 on the season when it hosts No. 11/15 Towson on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET. The Hoyas won at Saint Joseph’s last week, 12-9, while the Tigers fell at No. 12/10 Penn State, 13-7. Fellow unbeaten No. 19/19 Denver will play its first home game of the season, hosting Louisville at 3 p.m. Villanova and Old Dominion eye their first wins of the season when they host Cornell and American, respectively, at 1 p.m. Marquette has the lone Sunday contest as the Golden Eagles host Detroit Mercy at 2 p.m.
Midweek Recap
A trio of BIG EAST teams played contests ahead of weekend action, including Butler which opened its 2019 season Thursday against Duquesne. Despite a hat trick form Karina Latsko and 14 saves by Amanda Rumsey, the Bulldogs fell 16-8. Old Dominion fell to 0-2 on the young season after dropping a narrow decision at VCU on Wednesday. The Monarchs trailed 9-3 at the half but scored five of the first seven goals of the second period to get within three, 11-8, but the Rams scored back-to-back goals to cool off ODU’s comeback attempt. Marquette played a midday contest today, falling at Cincinnati 22-18 despite 13 second-half scores. A stretch of seven consecutive UC goals in the first half proved to be the difference maker, despite a team-high five goals from MU’s Charlotte McGuire.

In The Polls
Only one of the two national polls was updated this week, but Denver benefitted from the refresh as the Pioneers are now ranked in both polls. Denver went 2-0 last weekend, including a win at then-No. 18/17 Stanford on Friday, and went from receiving votes in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll to No. 19. The Pios were already No. 19 in the IWLCA Poll. Georgetown, which is ranked No. 22 in the IWLCA Top 25, continued to receive votes in the Media Poll after its win at Saint Joseph’s on Saturday.
