Providence, -/RV DePaul earn weekend sweeps, No. 8/7 Marquette sets scoring standards, Villanova shoots lights out and Creighton rallies for the win.

Villanova 91, Georgetown 43
The Wildcats shot a blistering 64.9 percent from the field en route to a convincing win over the visiting Hoyas. Villanova couldn't miss in the third quarter, as the Wildcats made 17 of 18 shots for 94.4 percent shooting. The clip helped Villanova outscore Georgetown 39-14 in the third to take a 77-30 lead. Kelly Jekot was 7-of-7 from the field in the third stanza for 16 points, while Mary Gedaka was 5-of-5 for 11 points. Villanova also had an assist on 12 of its 17 third quarter field goals. Jekot finished with 22 points on the afternoon while Gedaka scored 21. Tayanna Jones led GU with 10 points.

8/7 Marquette 109, Seton Hall 63
The Golden Eagles rebounded in emphatic fashion following Friday’s setback at St. John’s, scoring the most points in a BIG EAST contest since Jan. 17, 2012 (Notre Dame, 120), while Natisha Hiedeman had the highest individual tally since Jan, 21, 2017 (Brooke Schulte, 35). Hiedeman, who came off the bench, scored 20 of her game-high 34 over the final 20 minutes as Marquette erupted for a 60-point second half. Danielle King added 20 points and 12 assists for the Golden Eagles, marking the second point-assist double-double in the BIG EAST this season. Desiree Elmore scored a team-high 21 points for The Hall, while adding eight rebounds and four assists.

-/RV DePaul 70, St. John’s 62
The Blue Demons clinched a BIG EAST Tournament First Round bye with a win at The World’s Most Famous Arena on Sunday, claiming their fourth straight victory and breaking free from Butler to sit alone in second place in the league standings. Down one with 6:07 to play, DePaul used a 7-0 run spanning nearly three minutes to lead by six, 58-52, with 3:17 left. The Blue Demons never trailed again, with St. John’s getting as close as two, 58-56, the rest of the way. DePaul’s Lexi Held and St. John’s Qadshah Hoppie tied for the game high with 16 points apiece, with Held scoring eight in that decisive fourth quarter. Despite a 35-35 tie in rebounds, DePaul scored 17 second-chance points to St. John’s two, while the Blue Demon bench outscored the Red Storm reserves, 31-10.

Creighton 53, Xavier 52
The visiting Bluejays doubled up the Musketeers, 22-11, in the fourth quarter to erase a 14-point deficit and pick up the season sweep. Down 12 with 8:40 remaining, Creighton went on a 15-2 run to take its first lead since the opening moments of the second quarter. Lauren Wasylson hit clutch free-throws down the stretch to push Xavier back ahead by four with 1:37 remaining, but Olivia Elger scored five unanswered points for Creighton to move ahead in the final 30 seconds. The Musketeers had a look at a go-ahead three-pointer with five ticks left, but Bluejay rookie Rachael Saunders made a game-saving block. Wasylson finished with 11 points while Creighton’s Temi Carda let all scorers with 18 points off 7-of-12 shooting. Creighton moved into a three-way tie for sixth place in the standings, while Xavier guaranteed a BIG EAST Tournament First Round game with the loss.

Providence 66, Butler 63 OT
The Friars and Bulldogs went into overtime for the third straight meeting dating back to last season’s BIG EAST Tournament matchup as Providence clinched a pivotal season sweep over Butler in Indianapolis. PC moved into the solo spot in fourth place in the BIG EAST standings, claiming its second weekend sweep of the season. Jovana Nogic paced the Friars with 20 points on 7-14 shooting from the field, including a 6-9 performance from beyond the arc. Her six three-pointers move her into a tie for second place all-time in the BIG EAST record books with Brittany Hrynko (DePaul, 2011-15), as she now has 165 triples in her career during regular-season league play. Butler’s Whitney Jennings led all scorers with 23 points, while Tori Schickel notched a double-double of 10 points and 19 rebounds.
