NEW YORK – St. John’s junior guard Mustapha Heron has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week and Villanova freshman forward Saddiq Bey has been chosen BIG EAST Freshman of the Week.  Heron helped the Johnnies to a 2-0 week, which included a win against Villanova.  Bey’s Wildcats were 1-1 for the week.            
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Mustapha Heron, St. John’s, G, Jr. – In a 2-0 week that included a come-from-behind 71-65 win over 13th-ranked Villanova, Heron averaged 23.5 points and 4.5 rebounds.  He scored 14 of his 19 points during the second-half rally against Villanova.  In a 77-73 overtime win over Butler, the junior scored a season-high 28 points.  For the two games, Heron shot 54.2 percent from the floor, 50 percent from 3-point range and 85 percent from the foul line.     
   
 
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Saddiq Bey, Villanova, F, Fr. – Bey registered 11 points and five rebounds in a 71-65 defeat to St. John’s at Madison Square Garden.  Earlier in the week, the freshman contributed six points and six rebounds in an 85-67 victory over Providence.  Bey was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll last week.

Kamar Baldwin, Butler, G, Jr.
Scored 25 points in a win over DePaul (91-78) and averaged 20.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists in a 1-1 week.  Shot 50 percent from the field.               
Markus Howard, Marquette, G, Jr.
In Marquette’s only game of the week, scored 36 points in a win at DePaul (92-73).  Made 12-of-21 from the field and 4-of-9 from 3-point range.          
L.J. Figueroa, St. John’s, G-F, So.
Scored a game-high 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in a win against Villanova (71-65).  Averaged 14.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 4.0 steals in a 2-0 week.        
Myles Powell, Seton Hall, G, Jr.  
Averaged 24.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2-0 steals in a 2-0 week.  His 3-pointer with 48.5 seconds left was the winning basket in a win at Creighton (81-75).              
Naji Marshall, Xavier, F, So.
Led Musketeers to a 2-0 week by averaging 18.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists.  Scored 13 of the team’s final 16 points in an OT win over Creighton (64-61).
