#BIGEASTtrack Championships Presented By Jeep Starts Friday

GENEVA, Ohio  – The 2019 BIG EAST Indoor Track & Field Championships presented by Jeep return to Spire Institute on Friday for the first time since 2013. Villanova returns as the defending champions on both the men’s and women’s side. The Wildcats will be looking to earn their eighth title for the men and 16th for the women.

Action begins 9 a.m. ET on Friday with the first events of the pentathlon and heptathlon. Field events start at 10:30 a.m. and running races begin at 11:30 a.m. and will continue through 3 p.m. Eleven of Friday’s running races will be trials, the  5,000-meter event and distance medley relay will be finals. The pentathlon events will also finish up on Friday.
 
Saturday’s schedule begins at 10 a.m. with the final events of the heptathlon. Field events will begin at 11:30 a.m. Running events will start at 11:20 a.m., kicking off with the unseeded section of the 3,000-meter event.  Starting with the mile at 11 a.m., all running events will be medal runs. 
 
The BIG EAST Digital Network presented by SoFi will once again cover the running events live starting at 11:20 a.m. on Friday and 10:10 a.m. on Saturday with Matt Schumacker on the call. BEDN Correspondent Paul Fritschner will have trackside interviews with the winners. Field and multi-events will be taped and highlights will be inserted into the two-day broadcast.
 
The awards ceremony will begin approximately at 2:40 p.m. ET and will be covered by BEDN. Trophies will be given to the team champions and runners up; most outstanding track performer, most outstanding field performer and high point scorer for the men and women.
 
There are 10 student-athletes looking to defend their 2018 individual champion titles:
 
For the women (alphabetically by team):
  • Alexia Brooks, DePaul – 60mH
  • Marin McClowry, Marquette – High Jump
  • Millie Paladino, Providence – 3,000m
  • Nicole Hutchinson, Villanova – Mile
  • Trudy-Ann Williams, Villanova – 60m
 
For the men (alphabetically by team):
  • Kyle Decker, DePaul – 60mH
  • Kyle Hedge, DePaul – Shot Put
  • Nate Alleyne, Georgetown  - 200m
  • Daniel Armstrong, Marquette – High Jump
  • Terrance Howard, Marquette – Weight Throw
 
Kyle Decker of DePaul is going for the four-peat in the 60-meter hurdles. His teammate Kyle Hedge is going for his third gold in the shot put. Marquette’s Daniel Armstrong is also going for win No. 3 in the High Jump.
 
On the Tuesday following the championship, the all-conference team will be announced. The all-conference team includes all top three finishers in the meet.
