BIG EAST Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Ben Konopka, Marquette, Fr., Hurdles (Inverness, Ill.)
Marquette freshman Ben Konopka broke his own Marquette freshman record in the 60-meter hurdles last week at Notre Dame’s Meyo Invitational. With a 8.20 finish, his time ranks first in the BIG EAST this season and is No. 2 overall at Marquette. Konopka’s time is also the best in the BIG EAST since conference reconfiguration in 2014. The freshman won his preliminary heat with the mark on Friday and placed 12th in the event on Saturday afternoon.
 
BIG EAST Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Joe Keys, Marquette, So., Multis (Downers Grove, Ill.)
Golden Eagle sophomore Joe Keys broke the Marquette record in the heptathlon with a score of 5,241 at the University of Chicago’s Windy City Rumble. He bettered or tied four personal bests on his way to that mark, which leads the BIG EAST and ranks 22nd nationally. His long jump of 7.00 meters ranks second in the BIG EAST this season.
 
BIG EAST Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Leah Anderson, St. John’s, So., Sprints (Mount Vernon, N.Y.)
St. John’s sophomore Leah Anderson was a triple Metropolitan Champion last weekend winning both the 200-meter and 400-meter events individually and as part of the 4x400-meter relay squad. Her 400-meter time of 54.32 improved her first place standing in the BIG EAST and is ranked 43rd nationally. Her 200-meter time of 24.33 also landed her into first place in the BIG EAST. The Red Storm 4x400-meter team also marked a top BIG EAST time of 3:46.95. It is Anderson’s second weekly honor of the season.
 
BIG EAST Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Ja’Tae Joyner, St. John’s, Fr., Jumps (Bowie, Md.)
St. John’s freshman Ja’Tae Joyner leaped her way to a first place finish at the Metropolitan Championships with a personal-best 12.11 meter triple jump. It was the third straight week that Joyner broke her own personal record. Her mark currently leads the league. She also finished third in the long jump with a 5.63-meter jump. It is Joyner’s second weekly honor of the season.
 
Notable Performances
  • Butler’s Allie Vogeler  broke her own school record in the 600-meter run at the Meyo Invitational with a time of 1:31.37. She finished second in the race just behind Jordan Anderson (1:31.09), who was running unattached.
  • Georgetown’s Nate Alleyne finished third in the men’s 200-meter event at the Villanova Invitational with a BIG EAST top time of 21.74.
  • Villanova’s Thomas Conboy finished fifth in the pole vault with a height of 4.75 meters, a personal best which ties the ninth-best height indoors in Villanova history. It is seventh overall on the Wildcats’ performance list. His mark leads the BIG EAST.
