All Eleven BIG EAST Swimming & Diving Men’s and Women’s Teams Earn CSCAA Scholar All-America Recognition
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) announced their list of NCAA swimming and diving teams selected as Scholar All-America teams. Only four conferences, including the BIG EAST had both of their men’s and women’s programs honored. The other three conferences were the American Athletic Conference, the Big XII Conference and the Colonial Athletic Association. To receive Scholar All-America honors, student-athletes must earn grade point averages of 3.00 or higher for the fall semester.
The BIG EAST consists of six women’s and five men’s squads, sponsored by Butler (women only), Georgetown, Providence, Seton Hall, Villanova and Xavier. The men’s teams’ average GPA of 3.36 was only second to that of the Ivy League (3.39), while the women were tied with the Ivy League for the third-highest average GPA in the country at 3.49. The Big XII Conference topped the women’s list at a 3.52 GPA and the Mid-American Conference was second (3.50).
Six men’s conferences, the BIG EAST, America East, Colonial Athletic Association (CAA), Big XII, American Athletic Conference (AAC) and Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) achieved 100 percent recognition.
For the women, seventeen conferences, representing 131 teams achieved perfection.
Members of the CSCAA Scholar All-America Committee include Paul Richards, Chair (Dickinson), Brent Summers (Willamette), Gwynn Harrison (Bridgewater), Hollie Bonewit-Cron (Miami-Ohio), Jason Hite (Indianapolis), Jonathan Jordan (Lincoln College), Jerod Simek (Truman State), Milania Socha (Dartmouth), Nikki Rosen (Davis & Elkins), RC Weston (Alfred State).
Founded in 1922, the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) – the oldest organization of college coaches in America – is a professional organization of college swimming and diving coaches dedicated to serving and providing leadership for the advancement of the sport of swimming & diving at the collegiate level.
