CHICAGO —
After losing twice to Butler during the regular season, Creighton turned the tables on the No. 3 seed Bulldogs to advance to the BIG EAST Women’s Tournament Semifinals with Sunday’s 60-51 victory at Wintrust Arena.

Jaylyn Agnew scored 13 points, Olivia Elger had 11 and Audrey Faber added 10 as the sixth seed Bluejays (15-15) earned a Monday date with No. 2 seed DePaul.

Butler had swept the regular season series, beating the Bluejays 75-43 on Jan. 20 on the road and 66-46 on Feb. 15 at home.

Senior Tori Schickel paced the Bulldogs (21-9) with a game-high 16 points, Michelle Weaver had 11 and Whitney Jennings added 10.

Tatum Rembao's layup broke a 27-27 tie late in the first half as Creighton claimed a 29-27 halftime lead. Agnew paced the Bluejays with eight first half points, including a pair of 3 pointers. Jennings topped the Bulldogs with 10 points in the first half.

Neither team gained much traction in a third quarter featuring five ties, including a late 42-42 deadlock broken by a free throw by Creighton’s Faber with four seconds showing.

The Bulldogs trailed 49-44 with 7:13 left in regulation when they abruptly went cold and scoreless for the next 4:08. Creighton opened a 55-47 lead during that span and Butler was unable to significantly close the gap.

While out of BIG EAST title contention, Butler may be a good bet for post-season consideration that would add to significant achievements in a turnaround season after going 15-17 last year.

Bulldog BIG EAST honors included head coach Kurt Godlevske as Coach of the Year  and senior guard Michelle Weaver named as league Defensive Player of the Year. Schickel, a forward/center, landed on the BIG EAST Second Team.

Creighton’s Faber was a First Team honoree.

Tourney play continues Monday with semifinals at 3 and 5:30 p.m. CDT. Tuesday’s championship is set for 7 p.m. and will be televised on Fox Sports 1.
