Michael Wyman, Providence, Senior
Wyman won the 1,500-meter run at the Black and Gold Challenge at UCF with a time of 3:47.86. The time lists ninth nationally and tops in the BIG EAST by nearly four seconds.
BIG EAST Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Jack Judge, Villanova, Senior
Judge posted the top javelin mark in the BIG EAST this season at the Penn Challenge last week, recording a toss of 63.59 meters. The distance ranks 43
rd among all Division I competitors this season.
BIG EAST Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Allie Vogeler, Butler, Senior
Vogeler opened the outdoor season at the Vanderbilt Black and Gold Invitational with a fourth place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.45, which currently sits at 12
th nationally and first in the BIG EAST. The senior was also a member of the Bulldogs' 4x100-meter relay that broke the Butler school record with a time of 47.88.
BIG EAST Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Taryn Ashby, Villanova, Sophomore
Ashby opened the season with the second-longest throw of her career in the javelin at 45.72 meters. She tallied the leading BIG EAST mark and is ranked 24
th on the East Region performance list following the first week of the season.
BIG EAST Notable Performances
- Butler’s Johnny Leverenz posted the NCAA’s ninth-fastest 800m time this season with a second-place finish of 1:50.59 at the Black and Gold Invitational.
- Georgetown swept the men’s and women’s 2,000-meter steeplechase titles at the Penn Challenge, with Christian Liddell winning the men’s crown (5:54.12) and Katie Dammer claiming the women’s (7:04.46).
- Marquette posted the two best 110-meter hurdles marks in the BIG EAST this season with Ben Konopka (14.76) and Ross Bravo’s (15.08) performances at the Black and Gold Challenge. Brendan McKinney also recorded the best discus (47.41m) and hammer throw (52.98m) distances in the league so far this season.
- Brianna Ilarda impressed for the Friars at the Black and Gold Challenge, winning the 2,000-meter steeplechase in large-margin fashion with a time of 6:26.52. The runner-up’s time was 7:10.17.
- Villanova’s Caroline Alcorta recorded one of the top 1,500 meter times in the nation this season, finishing in 4:28.58 to list 31st in Division I.
