Along with Butler, the BIG EAST has the most teams still alive in the WNIT, with only the Big 12 (West Virginia, TCU) also having multiple teams competing in the Round of 16. The BIG EAST last had three teams in the third round in 2012. Butler will visit Cincinnati on Thursday in the third round with tipoff set for 7 p.m.
The winner of the Providence-Georgetown tilt will face either James Madison or Virginia Tech, which square off on Thursday at 7 p.m. in Harrisonburg, Va. The Butler-Cincinnati winner gets either Arkansas or TCU, which also tip on Thursday evening.
Georgetown won both meetings with Providence this season, 68-52 in Friartown on Jan. 4, and 61-56 at McDonough Arena on Feb. 3. Dionna White and Dorothy Adomako have had PC’s number this season, with White averaging 21.5 points 8.0 rebounds, 4.5 steals and 3.5 assists in the two meetings, while Adomako has posted 20.0 points and 11.0 rebounds.
