MBB Minute -- DePaul Advances to CBI Finals
Max Strus and Paul Reed each scored 24 points to lead DePaul to a 92-87 win over Coastal Carolina in the semifinal round of the CBI on Wednesday at McGrath-Phillips Arena. The Blue Demons advance to the finals where they will play a best-of-three series against the winner of Thursday’s South Florida-Loyola Marymount game. DePaul will open on the road on Monday with games two and three (if necessary) at home.
In the win over Coastal Carolina, the Blue Demons (18-15) made 22-of-23 free throws. Femi Olujobi added 18 points and eight rebounds. DePaul has averaged 96.3 points in three CBI victories.
The Blue Demons are the second BIG EAST team to participate in the CBI. In 2012, Pittsburgh competed and won the title in a three-game final versus Washington State.
Creighton’s season ended on Monday in the NIT Quarterfinals with a 71-58 loss at TCU. The Bluejays led 33-30 at halftime, but the Horned Frogs started the second half with a 16-0 run during which Creighton’s Martin Krampelj went down with an ankle injury and did not return. Mitch Ballock led the Bluejays (20-15) with 14 points.
