Providence’s Brianna Ilarda runs the fastest 3,000-meter steeplechase time in Division I this season to claim weekly award.

BIG EAST Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Ruach Padhal, Georgetown, Sophomore
Padhal posted the top 800-meter time in the BIG EAST this season by over three seconds with a finish of 1:49.06 at this weekend’s Florida Relays. The sophomore’s time currently ranks 15th nationally and 11th in the East Region.   
 
BIG EAST Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Chris Shanahan, Providence, Sophomore
Shanahan broke the Providence program record in the javelin on Saturday at the Raleigh Relays. The sophomore recorded a throw of 61.64 meters to rank second in the BIG EAST this season, 42nd on the East Region list.
 
BIG EAST Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Brianna Ilarda, Providence, Redshirt-Senior
Ilarda won the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Stanford Invitational, becoming the first PC woman to win gold at the annual meet in Palo Alto. The redshirt-senior ran the fastest time in the NCAA this season, six seconds fastest than her previous personal best, snapping the tape in 9:50.42
 
BIG EAST Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Taryn Ashby, Villanova, Sophomore
Ashby repeats the weekly award after setting the Villanova program record in the javelin at the Florida Relays. The sophomore recorded a toss of 48.03 meters for the top mark in the BIG EAST this season, 37th best in the NCAA.
 
BIG EAST Notable Performances
  • Butler’s Johnny Leverenz posted the NCAA’s 19th-fastest 1,500m time this season with a fourth-place finish of 3:45.05 at the Raleigh Relays
  • Alexia Brooks ran the fastest 100-meter hurdles time in the BIG EAST this season when the DePaul senior clocked a 13.48 finish at the Florida Relays
  • Georgetown’s Josette Norris posted the fourth-fastest 5,000-meter time in program history with a finish of 15:46.75 at Stanford this weekend; the time ranks seventh nationally this season
  • St. John’s Leah Anderson recorded a pair of times which rank in the top 90 nationally this season – a 400-meter finish of 54.42 (49th) and a 200-meter clip of 24.04 (88th) – at the Stanford Invitational
  • Martin Barr recorded a 5,000-meter PR at Stanford this weekend which ranks 30th nationally as the Villanova sophomore ran a time of 14:01.63 to lead the BIG EAST this season; teammate Caroline Alcorta ran the NCAA’s eighth-fastest 10K, second fastest in program history – 32:53.26
