In The Polls
Despite going 2-0 last week, including a win over No. 25/RV Colorado, Denver fell one spot in the latest IWLCA Poll to No. 16, while rising one spot in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll to No. 18. The Pioneers rolled over Old Dominion, 20-1, in both teams’ BIG EAST opener on Saturday to improve to 9-2 on the year. Georgetown won its second straight and maintained its spot at No. 22 in the IWLCA Top 25, and continued to receive votes in the media poll. The Hoyas (7-4) won their lone game of the week – 21-3 at Butler in Saturday’s league opener.
22/RV Georgetown 21, Butler 3
The Hoyas scored early and often in Indianapolis on Saturday, jumping out to a 5-0 lead less than four minutes into the contest. GU would lead 13-2 by halftime before limiting the Bulldogs to just one second-half score to close the game on a 13-1 tear. No. 22/RV Georgetown was a perfect 20-20 on clears. Liza Liotta scored a game-high four goals while Taylor Gebhardt added a hat trick. Haelle Chomo had seven saves in the win. Three different Bulldogs scored in the setback, all on free position shots. Ashley Lizzi had three caused turnovers, three draw controls and two ground balls for Butler.

Villanova 15, Marquette 13
Tied at 13-13 with five minutes to play, Grainger Rosati scored the go-ahead goal with 3:33 to play before Brittany Bruno provided an insurance score with under a minute remaining. Bruno finished with a game-high seven points off six goals and an assist, while rookie Alexa Moro earned the win in net with seven saves. Lindsey Willcocks had four goals and an assist for Marquette. MU trailed 11-4 early in the second half before rallying, scoring seven straight to knot the game at 11-11 with 12:12 remaining. Villanova responded with a pair of goals by Bruno and Nicole Concannon to keep the Wildcats from trailing.

15/19 Denver 20, Old Dominion 1
Hannah Liddy matched the BIG EAST single-game record for assists with eight, to go along with two scores to finish with 10 points on the afternoon. Elizabeth Behrins and Bea Behrins scored four times apiece, with Bea adding an assist to finish with five points. Denver outshot ODU 30-10 and was a perfect 18-of-18 in clears. The Pioneers held the Monarchs without a score until the 15:52 mark of the second half while building up a 17-0 advantage. Notre Dame’s Maggie Tamasitis originally set the BIG EAST single-game standard for assists on April 14, 2012, with her eight helpers against Connecticut. Liddy’s 10 points match the single-game high in the BIG EAST this season.
