Georgetown's Parsells, Marquette's Farrell Grab Weekly Golf Honors

NEW YORK – Georgetown senior Christina Parsells has been named BIG EAST Female Golfer of the Week and Marquette’s Oliver Farrell has earned BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week honors.  Parsells took first place at the Hoya Invitational and Farrell posted a 5-under par 208 against a formidable field at the Mason Rudolph Championship.   
 
The BIG EAST Golf Championships Presented by Jeep return to the Callawassie Golf Club in Callawassie, S.C.   The women’s championship will be held April 19-21.  The men’s championship is April 26-28. 
 
BIG EAST Female Golfer of the Week
Christina Parsells, Georgetown, Sr. – Parsells won her first career tournament, capturing medalist honors at the Hoya Invitational with a 2-over-par 218.  The senior was the leader after 36 holes with a 71 in the first round and a 73 in the second round to sit at even-par 144.  After falling two strokes over the first nine holes in the final round, Parsells recovered with three birdies on the back nine to take the win.  Georgetown won the team competition by eight strokes with a score of 42-over par 906.

BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week
Oliver Farrell, Marquette, Sr. – Farrell opened play at the Mason Rudolph Championship, hosted by Vanderbilt, with a pair of sub-70 rounds and finished at 5-under-par 208, tied for 11th place.  Farrell (67-69-72) carded a tournament-high three eagles.  His 8-under total on par 5 holes was the third best performance at the tournament.  Marquette finished 10th in a field that included five top-50 programs and 12 top-100 players.  Farrell finished seventh among the top 100 players. 

BIG EAST Women’s Notes – Butler’s Lauren Tibbets won the individual title at the Big Four Classic in a single 18-hole event with a one-over 73.  She finished three shots ahead of teammate and second-place finisher Ally Ross, who carded a 76.  Tibbets made three birdies for the round.  Butler’s team total of 309 (+21) was followed by second-place Hanover College at 365…Katie Allen of Creighton tied for 20th place at the Kansas City Intercollegiate.  The freshman shot 231 over 54 holes with rounds of 76, 73 and 82.  The meet featured 10 teams and 67 competitors…Jessie Kweon of St. John’s finished seventh at the Hoya Invitational with a 10-over par 226 (79-76-71).

BIG EAST Men’s Notes – After winning the UNI Invitational two weeks ago, freshman Tucker Knaak helped Creighton tie Drake in a dual meet.  He birdied the final hole of the match to take a 1-up victory and secure a 3-3 deadlock.  Knaak had trailed by two holes in his match with only four to play…Seton Hall competed in the Princeton Invitational, finishing fourth.  Gregor Tait and Deven Ramachandran both shot a 3-under-par 210.  Tait’s rounds were 68, 71 and 71 and Ramachandran’s were 71-71-68.  It was the second straight sub-par tournament for Tait and was Ramachandran’s best performance as a collegian…Georgetown also competed at the Princeton Invitational, taking sixth place led by Hardin Councill.  The junior shot a 5-under-par 208, which was a career best and the lowest score for any Hoya this season…Austin Briggs of St. John’s carded a 72 and a 69 at the Wildcat Spring Invitational to finish one under par in a tie for 18th place…Junior Patrick Allgeier led Butler to the team title at the Big Four Classic event at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Ind.  He shot a 3-under-par 69 and won the event by six shots.  The Bulldogs’ team total was 299 (+11), 22 shots better than runner-up Hanover College (+33)...Garrett Wood was the top performer for Xavier at the Ryman Hospitality Intercollegiate with a 145 (+3) that tied for 17th place.  The team finished 11th at 602 (+34).
