NEW YORK – The seeds and schedule have been set for the 2019 BIG EAST Men's and Women's Tennis Championship presented by Jeep, which will take place Thursday, April 18 through Sunday, April 21 at the Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center in Cayce, S.C.
Seeds are determined by the conference’s tennis championship and coaches’ seeding advisory committees that review each team's regular-season schedule, ITA rankings, results against BIG EAST and common non-conference opponents and wins/losses against ranked foes.
Xavier will be the No. 1 seed for the women, while St. John’s is the top seed for the men.
On the women’s side, No. 9 Butler and No. 8 Georgetown will meet simultaneously as No. 10 Providence and No. 7 Creighton when first round matches kick off the championship at 10 a.m. ET on Thursday.
Friday’s quarterfinal matches begin at 9 a.m. for the men when No. 8 Xavier takes on No. 1 St. John’s at the top of the bracket, which coincides with No. 7 Villanova against No. 2 Butler and No. 6 Georgetown meets No. 3 Marquette in the bottom half of the bracket. The fourth contest will be between No. 5 Creighton and No. 4 DePaul at 12:30 p.m.
The women will begin quarterfinal action at 12:30 p.m. on Friday when the winner of Georgetown and Butler battles No. 1 Xavier. At the same time, the winner between Creighton and Providence will take on No. 2 DePaul. Friday wraps up with No. 6 Villanova facing No. 3 Marquette and No. 5 Seton Hall versus No. 4 St. John’s.
Saturday’s action commences at 9 a.m. with the two concurrent semifinals for the men, followed by the two women’s semifinal matches at 12:30 p.m.
The championship will conclude on Sunday as the men’s final will take place at 9 a.m. and the women’s final slated for 12:30 p.m.
The men’s and women’s champions will earn the BIG EAST’s automatic bid to the NCAA Championships.
