NEW YORK – Blue Demon shortstop Maranda Gutierrez has been selected as the BIG EAST Softball Player of the Week, while Red Storm pitcher Madison Morris earned Pitcher of the Week honors for the third time this season. DePaul defeated Providence twice on Saturday to remain second in the league standings, while St. John’s swept Seton Hall in a three-game series on the road to maintain the top spot in the BIG EAST.
                                                                                       
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Maranda Gutierrez, DePaul, So., SS (Whitter, Calif.)
Gutierrez guided the Blue Demons to a doubleheader sweep of Providence on Saturday. She went 4-for-8 in the two games for an average of .500 and a slugging percentage of 1.250, which was at the top of the league. The sophomore scored four runs, three RBI, and connected on a home run in each game to lead DePaul’s offense.
 
BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week
Madison Morris, St. John’s, Sr., P (Hampton, Va.)
Morris was instrumental in the Red Storm’s sweep of Seton Hall over the weekend. She senior pitcher won both of her starts in the opener and finale, and she added a save in the middle game. In 15.1 innings of work, she allowed only two earned runs for an ERA of 0.91. She recorded 10 strikeouts and earned the shutout, complete-game win on Sunday. Morris allowed 11 hits and finished the weekend with an opposing batting average of .196.
 
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Laura Roecker, Creighton, Sr., P (Elkhorn, Neb.)
Roecker registered an ERA of 0.00 in two starts for the Bluejays which she went 2-0. In two complete games, she did not allow an earned run. The senior collected four strikeouts and allowed 10 hits in 12 innings of work in the circle for an opposing batting average of .208.
 
Krista Dalgarn, DePaul, Jr., P (Orange, Calif.)
Dalgarn did not allow a run in six innings for the Blue Demons. She earned the win, only giving up two hits and two walks with four strikeouts. She had an ERA of 0.00 and an opposing batting average of .100 in her lone start.
 
Cassie Henning, Georgetown, Fr., P (Atlanta, Ga.)
Henning helped the Hoyas pick up two wins against Butler on the road over the weekend. In game one, she recorded three RBI off a double and scored a run. She registered her first complete-game win in the second contest, allowing just one run and one walk for an ERA of 1.00.
 
Angela Saric, St. John’s, Fr., P (Oakland, N.J.)
Saric secured the win in her start of the second game against Seton Hall and did not allow a run. Overall, she struck out five in 6.2 innings of work, allowing just one earned run in 1.2 innings of relief during game one. She finished with an ERA of 1.05 and a league-low 0.48 opposing batting average.
 
Paige Rauch, Villanova, So., P/INF (Windsor, N.Y.)
Rauch carried a league-best .667 batting average in three games versus Creighton, along with a slugging percentage of 1.000 and on base percentage of .700. She went 6-for-9 at the plate and struck out 11 in two starts in the circle. The sophomore went 1-1, giving up zero runs in her first outing, but collected seven in the series finale for an ERA of 4.90.
