Creighton, Georgetown Women Advance To #BEtennis Championship Quarterfinals

CAYCE, S.C. – The first day of the BIG EAST Tennis Championship presented by Jeep saw Creighton and Georgetown move on after sweeping Providence and Butler, respectively. The Bluejays and Hoyas grabbed the doubles point each en route to 4-0 victories.
 
Georgetown advances to the quarterfinals and will face top-seeded Xavier, while Creighton is set to take on No. 2 DePaul, with both matches scheduled to begin Friday at 12:30 p.m. ET.
 
The Hoyas started strong as the No. 2 doubles team of Sofie Moenster and Cecilia Lynham defeated Butler’s Lauryn Padgett and Nina Bertino, 6-1. Sydney Goodson and Risa Nakagawa gave Georgetown the doubles point after they outdid Emily Neal and Sara Linn, 6-2.
 
Nakagawa won the first match in singles play, 6-1, 6-2, versus Bertino to give the Hoyas an early 2-0 lead. Elena De Santis notched another point for Georgetown with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Linn at No. 3. Lynham sealed the deal on the No. 6 court with a 6-1, 7-6 triumph against Lauren Marx.
 
Creighton’s Ashley Ishimura and Sarah Wilcox made quick work of Providence’s Risa Takenaka and Aidan Epstein, securing the first doubles win in straight sets on court one. Erin Epperson and Gabby O’Connor partnered at No. 2 to defeat Haley Gurski and Mimi Dailey, 6-1, to claim the doubles point for the Bluejays.
 
Claire Henne was victorious first in singles as she made it past Epstein, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 3. In the top spot, Ishimura notched a win next, outdoing Takenaka, 6-2, 6-0. O’Connor clinched the match for Creighton on the No. 6 court, taking down Sera Satkowski, 6-0, 6-2.
  
The women’s quarterfinals kick off on Friday at 12:30 p.m. as Creighton faces DePaul and Georgetown challenges Xavier. No. 3 Marquette will battle No. 6 Villanova at 4 p.m., along with No. 4 St. John’s taking on No. 5 Seton Hall. Live Stats for each match can be found here.
 
The BIG EAST men’s quarterfinals begin at 9 a.m. on Friday with No. 1 St. John’s facing No. 8 Xavier, No. 2 Butler battling No. 7 Villanova and No. 3 Marquette hitting the courts against No. 6 Georgetown.
