Villanova's Davis, Xavier's Fitzpatrick and Tinsley Take Weekly Golf Awards

NEW YORK – Villanova freshman Matt Davis has been named BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week and the Xavier duo of Mikayla Fitzpatrick and Morgan Tinsley have been selected BIG EAST Female Golfers of the Week.  Davis tied for first place while helping the Wildcats win the Explorer Invitational.  Fitzpatrick and Tinsley tied for ninth place at the Lady Boilermaker Classic. 
 
The BIG EAST Golf Championships Presented by Jeep return to the Callawassie Golf Club in Callawassie, S.C.   The women’s championship will be held April 19-21.  The men’s championship is April 26-28. 
 
BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week
Matt Davis, Villanova, Fr. – Davis tied for medalist honors at the Explorer Invitational while helping the Wildcats to a win in the eight-team field.  The freshman shot a 72 and 74 for a 4-over-par 146.   The Wildcats’ team score was 608 (290-302) and Villanova won the tournament by four strokes.  Junior Mark Benevento tied for third place, one stroke behind with a 5-over-par 147.

BIG EAST Female Golfers of the Week
Mikayla Fitzpatrick and Morgan Tinsley, Xavier – Fitzpatrick and Tinsley tied for ninth place at the Lady Boilermaker Invitational with both players carding a 5-over-par 149.  Both shot a 72 in the first round followed by a 77 in the second round.  The Musketeers finished in third place with a score of 600 (+24).  A scheduled third round was canceled due to rain. 

BIG EAST Men’s Notes Marquette sophomore Hunter Eichhorn closed with a 68 in the final round to tie for third place at the Thunderbird Collegiate, hosted by Arizona State.  Eichhorn finished with a 6-under-par 207 to help the Golden Eagles take ninth place in a 13-team tournament consisting of all top-100 programs and 20 top-100 players.  Eichhorn finished better than 17 of the participating top-100 players...Junior Patrick Allgeier led Butler to an eighth-place finish at the Wright State Invitational.  Allgeier posted rounds of 70 and 73 for a 3-over 143.  The Bulldogs finished ninth in a 12-team field…Creighton finished in sixth place at the Git-R-Done Huskies Invitational in Lincoln, Neb.  Tucker Knaak tied for 10th place, firing scores of 72 and 76 for a 148…For the second straight week, Seton Hall and Georgetown competed in the same meet.  At the Rutherford Intercollegiate, hosted by Penn State, the Pirates finished fifth and the Hoyas were 12th.  Georgetown’s Hardin Councill tied for 14th with a 216 (71-72-73).  Seton Hall’s Chris Yeom was one stroke back, tying for 16th with a 217 (73-71-73).

BIG EAST Women’s Notes – Butler’s Lauren Tibbets prepped for this week’s BIG EAST Championship by tying for 13th place at the Lady Boilermaker Invitational.  She carded rounds of 75 and 77 on the Ackerman-Allen Golf Course to post an 8-over-par 152.  The final round was rained out…Seton Hall sophomore Mia Kness was the team’s top performer at the Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational.  She shot a 6-over-par 78 in all three rounds.
