Georgetown, Villanova and Marquette join Denver in the 2019 BIG EAST Women’s Lacrosse Championship presented by Jeep; Pioneers clinch at least a share of the regular-season title.

2019 BIG EAST Women’s Lacrosse Championship Presented By Jeep
The second-to-last weekend of the regular season saw the final three spots clinched in the 2019 BIG EAST Women’s Lacrosse Championship presented by Jeep. No. 24/- Georgetown, Villanova and Marquette join No. 15/15 Denver in the conference tournament, set for May 2 and 4 at Marquette’s Valley Fields in Milwaukee, Wis. Seeding is still to be determined, yet the Pioneers have clinched at least a share of the regular-season title following their 21-11 win over the Golden Eagles on Friday. The title is the first for the Pios, who are now in their third season of BIG EAST play. The Wildcats are making their first league tournament appearance since 2015 and second overall, the Golden Eagles qualify for their second straight conference postseason and the Hoyas punch their ticket for the 13th consecutive season.
 
15/15 Denver 21, Marquette 11
The Pioneers (12-2, 4-0 BIG EAST) kicked off the contest with the first six goals, three coming from seniors on their senior night (Feiss, Schreck & Lanuza). Marquette claimed its first goal of the evening at the 18-minute mark and quickly put another past Carson Gregg just one minute later. Denver went on a four-goal run before MU was able to stop it, totaling three in a row for themselves. The Crimson and Gold wrapped up the half with three more, sitting at 13-5 when the buzzer sounded. Marquette opened the second half with back-to-back goals. Bea Behrins broke their run with her third goal of the night, this time off a free position shot. After several minutes of back and forth play, the Pioneers began to capitalize at the 12-minute mark, scoring five of the last six goals in the contest. Quintin Hoch-Bullen tied her career high with five goals and six points, going 3-4 on free positions and tallying one assist. Grace Gabriel led the Golden Eagles (8-8, 2-2) with four goals and seven draws. The win clinched at least a share of the BIG EAST regular-season title for Denver, which improved to 4-0 in conference play.

24/- Georgetown 18, Old Dominion 4
Georgetown continued its streak as the only team in the league to participate in all 13 championships since it began in 2007, punching its postseason ticket with a win over ODU (3-13, 0-4) on Saturday. Seniors led the way as midfielder Francesca Whitehurst had four goals and three assists for seven points on the afternoon to go along with three draw controls.  Attacker Taylor Gebhardt managed four goals and an assist, while attacker Morgan Ryan had four goals in the contest along with four draw controls. Glory Johnson led the Monarchs with four points off a hat trick and assist. The Hoyas (9-7, 3-1) outshot the Monarchs 42-11 and pulled in 17 draw controls to ODU's six as freshman midfielder Jordyn Sabourin tallied a team-best five.

Villanova 17, Butler 5
The Wildcats locked up double-digit wins for the first time in program history and punched their second ever BIG EAST Championship ticket with Saturday’s win at Butler. Villanova improved to 10-6 overall and 3-1 in conference play to remain in contention for a regular-season title share. Villanova scored eight of the game’s first nine goals to pull away early, holding a 12-3 halftime advantage. Katie Comerford had four goals on the afternoon to lead the Wildcats, while Nicole Lee was credited with four caused turnovers. Sydney Pattison had two goals, three draw controls, two ground balls and two caused turnovers for Butler (3-13, 0-4).
