BIG EAST Attack Player of the Week
Daniel Bucaro, Georgetown, Sr., A (East Setauket, N.Y.)
Georgetown senior Daniel Bucaro tallied six points on a team-best four goals and two assists in the Hoyas’ first BIG EAST win of the season, 17-15, at Providence on Saturday. Bucaro’s six-point, four-goal performance tied for second highest last week among BIG EAST leaders. Bucaro’s third goal tied the game at 11-11 with 3:10 remaining in the third quarter. Georgetown closed the quarter on a 4-0 run, with Bucaro also assisting the final goal which gave Georgetown a 13-11 lead. Bucaro also scored the 17th and final goal of the game. It is Bucaro’s third Attack Player of the Week honor.
BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week
Tanner Thomson, Marquette, R-Sr., M (Toronto, Ontario)
Marquette redshirt senior midfielder Tanner Thomson led the Golden Eagles to a 12-8 win over St. John’s on Saturday with a game-best six points on four goals and two assists. Thomson posted the game’s first two goals, setting up his third hat trick of the season. Thomson marked an assist and his third goal of the contest capping an 8-0 run by Marquette to take a 10-4 lead with 14:08 left in the third period. Thomson’s goal with 4:51 left in the game was the final tally of the game for the Golden Eagles and put MU up 12-6.
BIG EAST Defensive Player and Freshman of the Week
Will Vitton, Villanova, Fr., GK (Summit, N.J.)
Villanova Freshman goalie Will Vitton earns double honors this week as both the Defensive Player and Freshman of the Week. Vitton saved a career high 19 shots in Villanova’s 12-11 road victory at then-No. 10 Denver on Saturday. Prior to the Wildcats’ win, Denver had not lost a conference game since joining the league in 2014 (27 games). In the final seconds, Vitton saved a Denver shot by Ellis Geis to secure the Villanova victory. He had six saves in the first quarter, seven in the third. Vitton finished the game with a .633 save percentage. Vitton’s 19 saves are also a BIG EAST best so far this season.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
John Hulsman, Marquette, So., GK
Hulsman posted a season-best 15 saves to help Marquette hold off ST. John’s in a 12-8 road victory. He made five saves during a 6-0 Marquette second quarter. He also caused a turnover and picked up a ground ball.
Nick Hatzipetrakos, Providence, Sr., A
Hatzipetrakos scored a season-high eight points in a 17-15 loss against Georgetown. All five of his shots on goal found the back of the net. His eight points are a BIG EAST individual best so far this season.
Colin Duffy, St. John’s, Sr., A
Duffy scored six goals for the week, including five in a 12-8 loss at Marquette. His five goals were a game best. Three of his goals were in the fourth quarter as the Red Storm attempted a come back against the Golden Eagles.
Keegan Khan, Villanova, So., A
Khan finished with a team high five points during the Wildcats 12-11 win at No. 10 Denver. He assisted two goals and scored another as Villanova went ahead 3-1 and held onto the lead for the rest of the game. He completed a hat trick when scoring at the 11:22 mark in the fourth, giving VU the largest lead of the game.
