MILWAUKEE – The 2019 BIG EAST Women’s Lacrosse Championship presented by Jeep gets under way at Marquette’s Valley Fields on Thursday with a pair of semifinal matchups. Top-seeded Denver will face fourth-seeded Villanova at 3 p.m. CT, followed by host and No. 2 seed Marquette against No. 3 seed Georgetown. Both games will stream live on the BIG EAST Digital Network, featured on Twitter Live via @BIGEAST. Semifinal winners advance to Saturday’s title game, set for 1:30 p.m. CT, airing live on FS2.

This Season: Just five days ago, the Pioneers won at Villanova, 14-8, to clinch the 15
th unbeaten season in BIG EAST history. Then-No. 14/14 Denver jumped out to a 6-1 lead and never looked back as the Wildcats got no closer than four the rest of the way. Five Pioneers had three points or more, with Kendra Lanuza posting a game-high five off two goals and three assists. National leader in goals against average, Carson Gregg had seven saves to pick up her 11
th win of the year. Liz Trojan led Villanova with a hat trick as the Wildcats became the only team in the BIG EAST this season to score double-digit goals against Denver, which leads the nation in scoring defense.

This Season: Just four days ago, Marquette picked up its first win over Georgetown in series history and its first top-25 victory in program history as the Hoyas entered the game ranked 24
th. Grace Gabriel scored five second-half goals for MU to erase a four-goal deficit, capping her scoring with the final two goals of the game, including the game winner as Marquette rallied for the 14-12 victory. Jules Horning made a season-high 18 saves in the win. Recently crowned BIG EAST Co-Midfielder of the Year along with Gabriel, Francesca Whitehurst led Georgetown with three points (2g, 1a), eight draw controls and three ground balls.
